Do NOT buy this product if you want to use it on anything other than a computer with more than one USB port free. If you are looking to store media and play it on another device, this will not work, it actually has fewer features than your average flash drive. For the one purpose, it's fine. But for another 10 bucks, you can get flexibility. |

I assumed that this would be like a similar WD back up drive I bought. Not true and cumbersome to use as a back up and no sync function. Gave it to my son since I really needed a back up - so be sure to read what you are buying before the purchase |

This drive is wonderful. It's tiny and easily portable. I don't have to use both USB plugs in order for it to work. Also, I love that it's just plug and play, no reformats or downloading software. The file transfer rate is pretty average, it took just over an hour and a half to move about 150GB of data (which is why I rated it a 4 for performance instead of a 5). I use it for media files, and I find it's great to just be able to play them off the drive, it doesn't affect the quality at all. Also, it works with vista and XP equally well. I'll definitely be recommending this product to friends, because for the price and performance, as well as the ease of use, it's a great bargain. I'll probably be buying another one shortly as well. |

I use this drive to store Virtual Machines and music files for work. I most recently loaded a 10G virtual machine in just a few minutes. This drive works like a charm! I do not have to use both USB ports but when running a VM choose to - either way, it is fine. I have a friend who has a different brand and he had to reformat his to import large files - not the case here. Love this little guy and am thinking about buying another. |

I bought this to use with a WD Media Player. When I went to copy files to it from my computer, I had to free up 2 USB ports in order for it to work. When I looked at my WD Media player, there are 2 USB ports, but one is in the back and one is on the side; too far apart for the included dual-USB cable to reach to both. Oh Oh, right? Well, although I had to have both USBs plugged into the computer, it works flawlessly using only one in the Media Player. Awesome! |

What Are BUS POWERED USB Devices?
USB was designed to allow many peripherals to be connected using a standard
interface port, and to improve the plug-and-play features of PCs by allowing
these devices to be connected and disconnected without rebooting the
computer! Another convenient feature includes providing power (also known as
Bus Power) to low-consumption devices without the need for an external power
supply. So Bus Powered means the device is powered by the USB Port, and not
an external power adaptor.
Bus Powered devices offer a lot of flexibility, particularly when used on
laptops and other portable devices. However, you need to determine when “bus
power” is best.
When is Bus Power best?
-
You have a desktop with ample USB ports, or
-
You have a laptop and you need to take your
Bus Powered devices with you, or
-
You only use the device intermittently and
want the simplicity of no external power adaptors, or
-
You want to keep desktop clutter to a
minimum, and want to eliminate power cables.
The best example of a USB Bus Power devices
are: USB Thumb Drives, or Passport style USB Hard Drives.
Rules for best results with Bus Powered
Devices:
-
Use a good quality USB Cable two feet or
less in length.
-
Be sure to directly connect the device to
your computer, instead of through a hub or other device - unless the USB
Hub has its own power.

Make sure your laptop battery is fully
charged.
Generally speaking, you do not want many
Bus Power devices connected at once, especially on portable devices or
laptops running on batteries. So consider unplugging unneeded devices if
necessary.
Some devices can be powered both by an external adaptor or by Bus Power. As
a general rule, you should use the external adaptor to power the device,
except when you need to use it and external power is not available. However,
higher-consumption devices, such as external optical media burners, and
large hard drives, may work best with external power.
