Navigate With Ease
nüvi 255W comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map redraw rates as you navigate. Its digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higher zoom levels, giving you a big picture of the surrounding terrain. In addition, nüvi 255W accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. I've been using it a week or so and overall its a pretty good unit. It's not perfect though, but I don't think perfection exists in a GPS. Things I've noticed- a road missing that was put in 5 or so years ago, speed limit indicator is kind of spotty and can't really be trusted, and it will send you on a stupid route occasionally. For instance, it picked a good route on the way to a destination, but then on the way back it picked a slightly different route that was clearly unnecessarily long. Then when I changed route despite its directions the arrival time immediately decreased fairly drastically, so the unit should have known. Wierd. It gets it right most the time though. It's clearly a MUCH better unit than my gf's nextar.

The first item died after working for 1 day. This company did have a replacement and the second unit has performed well so far. I used Magellan in the past and this is different, but seems comparable with respect to accuracy and also has some quirks most of which are map oriented.

This Nuvi 255W is our 4th Nuvi. We have tried other brands, but we the Garmin provides the best combination of features and functionality. The Nuvi finds satelites quickly and provides very good directions. The sound quality is very good. I can clearly hear the directions without cranking up the volume. The 255W provides valuable on-screen info including speed limit, current speed, arrival time, and next turn. I set the display to 2D. Simple but effective. 3 of our Nuvis are refurbished units. We have never had aproblem with any of the units. I highly recommend the 255W refurbushed Nuvi. Grab one before they are all gone.

I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas present. I received it in LESS than 24 hours!! It is very user friendly. However, to download the latest update you need a cable to hook your computer to the unit. I had to run out and purchase one. That would have been good to know up front as I'd have purchased one from this company. Their loss, and my incovenience. The unit directed us from WI to CA, 2,400 miles - great job!
