Great Machine
X200 is a great machine, solid, good battery life and performance. Too bad that it came with Vista but $50 to IBM for the XP disks solved that issue (way easier than spending hours hunting for drivers on the net)
I Love this Laptop BUT....
This is a great laptop and very easy for travel. I love it BUT had I realized there was no touch pad for pointing (just the red little pointer/mouse on the keyboard) I would not have purchased this high priced item!!!
X200
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS LAPTOP IT IS FAST AND RUNS WELL. THE SCREEN IS NOT QUITE AS GOOD AS MY SONY 11.1 BUT IT IS LARGER AND FASTER. ADDED A 64GIG SSD DRIVE AND LOADED XP PRO AND IT RUNS LIKE A DEER.
Excellent Machine
I used the previous versions of this X200 for several years and loved everyone of it. I bought this particular one for my daughter who is going to college. Oddly enough, a 17-year old girl would opt for this business machine over dozen of much cooler-looking machines for kids. The reason was she used mine computer before and fell in love with the quality and performance. She needs a "tough built" machine to cope with the college life abuse.
In this version, there are much improvement. The machine is faster even with bloated Vista OS. I particularly like the built-in camera which will come in handy for our Skype communication with our daughter. They were wise enough to keep all of the good things such as the legendary key board, the rubbery skin texture, phenomenon battery life.
Some people may not like the Red key in the middle of the key board, but that is the thing I like most about Thinkpad. I would prefer this over the regular mouse anytime. Give it a try and you'll see
x200 is the bomb!
got my x200. i was happy with everything. the only thing i was a bit sadden was the 6 cell battery only lasted about 3.5hrs of consistent use.
another downside of this is that there's not recovery CD available. though you can use lenovo's thinkadvantage to create the recovery disc, but many users have tried and failed when it gets to 4 or 5th disc. for me, i just ended up using acronis to image the whole HDD.
finally, the computer wobbles a bit, because the pads on the battery is higher than the original pads on the bottom of the laptop. it's not a major thing, just annoying at times.
so all in all, i would recommend this to anyone who use it for travel. it's lightweight and powerful machine.
oh and for anyone that purchases this lenovo or any other lenovo after 6/26/2009, you'll get a free Windows7 upgrade. i wish they would have some free upgrades for customers whom bought it before 6/26 to still have the free upgrade to windows 7. *hint* *hint* ;)
