THIS PRODUCT SHIPS IN OEM PACKAGING -
GO GREEN AND SAVE GREEN
Manufacturers sometimes offer discounts when large quantities of products are purchased without fancy, colorful, retail packaging. We take advantage of these opportunities to bring you the same quality, retail product at a lower price. Retail packaging is designed to look good on a store shelf and attract your attention. It frequently includes more paper, plastic and cardboard than needed. OEM packaging is not as visually attractive but is far more economical and because OEM packaging uses less paper, plastic, ink and cardboard it creates less waste and is better for the environment. Although OEM packaged product ships in a plain white or brown box you can be assured it is the same quality product as the retail packaged version. Buying OEM packaged products saves you money and helps save the planet…GO GREEN AND SAVE GREEN. Included accessories, software, documentation, and manufacturer warranties on OEM products may vary from retail versions. Please review our detailed specifications and photo gallery for included accessories and see below for warranty information.

Great drive. I pretty well bought only WD drives until now. The price per Gig is not as good as smaller drives but the fact that I can replace 2 older 750G drives and still have 500g left to play with is a big plus. I can reduce the number of drives in the case and these produce less heat and draw less power. It is quieter than the others too particularly it is idle. No problems with installation. The replacement warranty is great too if you ever need it.
There is a problem though. Any energy savings is lost because the packaging has changed. It is in a big hard plastic clamshell pack which demands a larger outer box to ship also. The clamshell packaging is nasty to open. It bears no recycle code that I can find. Do we have to stop buying WD bare drives? I hate this!

I used two of the 2 TB drives in a Buffalo backup drive enclosure. During long running periods (Apple time machine full backup of 600 GB of data) the Buffalo drive unit fan could not keep up with the twin 2 TB drive heat load, and the unit reduced the data rate to Kbits per second instead of megabits per second. For normal short run duration operations the drives work really well and they are very quiet. I highly recommend them.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with 2TB of storage, but I'm sure as my needs change over time, I'l find a use for it. Nevertheless, this drive works flawlessly so far. I've never had any problem with Western Digital products, so I don't anticipate any with this drive. I'll update if the situation changes, but I've used at least a dozen WD HDDs, and they've all been flawless. 5 stars all the way!!
