bought it for the live traffic feature which never worked, called tom tom technical support and was told to reset it and try again which didn't work, called again and i was told that i probably have a defective piece and was asked to return it for a replacemect, then i called customer service and told them what happend , the rep. was very kind and even e-mailed a label for shipping it back for free since it was defective. I got a refund for the whole amount shortly after they received it. |

only buy this product if you are willing to shell out 100.00 for map updates. tomtom is a british company, and they treat you like ssssst. |

I have the TomTom 930 so I was excited to see this new TomTom GO 740. It looked like many of it's problems were addressed. The windshield mount is a HUGE improvement over the 930. The speaker is loud and clear (unlike the Garmins I had before). Bluetooth paired easily with my cellular and the voice quality was good (again, better than the Garmins I owned before). Everything is great EXCEPT that the GO features are all subscription-based and available only in the U.S.! Now, I like the TomTom as a GPS, but this is the first GPS to incorporate the Internet using Google which, quite frankly, was my main reason for buying it. Can't find a POI? Just Google it on the TomTom! Only you can't because you are in Canada. The same applies to all the other features such as traffic, weather (which would have been sooo handy while I was camping), fuel prices, etc. I don't know what TomTom was thinking trying to sell this unit in Canada, but thankfully, I got a full refund. |

Most of the features that make this unit expensive work only in the US, such as LIVE, including traffic and fuel prices. Stay away if you'll be using this GPS mostly in Canada. |

From the day I received in installed this item of necessity, I was strongly impressed with the ease of a windshield connection. ( pressot to the winshield and turn the dial for suction). As I started to use it seemed intuitive in responding to my typed or oral commands. I could navigate to an address simply by choosing to speak to it ( excellent voice recognition), city , street , street # done, at first it establishes state sio you no longer have to. I have a bule tooth phone which paired easily with the Tom Tom and call my cell phone by voice or use the phone if you haven't prerecorded the name of the person you are calling into phone. If you have, use phone voice recognition, which travels to Tom Tom and the Go 740 dials it. You can speak through the 740 and hit the screen to hang-up. The currentness of maps are at least if not more current then major competitors. You can choose many voices and they are quite understandable. Great Safety GPS do to two way voice. Mike Florida |
