Moved up from an older Yamaha 690 in order to have access to HDMI inputs. The speaker set up is awesome, saves much time diddling with the manual controls. So far this product exceeds my expectations and I will be tweaking the AV as time goes on. Great price for the value received.

I Upgraded from the Onkyo 602 which has served fathfully for 2 years now but I wanted HDMI switching. This unit sounds great and works with my older RCA rear projection TV that has one DVI connector. The only issue is two upconverting DVD recorders will only go to 480P when this unit is connected to the TV. If I by-pass the receiver they both go up to 1080i. I blame the TV for this and not the receiver as my Sony Blu-ray player upconverts standard DVDs to 1080i perfectly. The component to HDMI works pretty well but straight component to component still looks better. I wish it had 3 component inputs instead of just 2 but overall I am satisfied. The Dolby True HD decoding is amazing even with only a 5.1 setup. The auto setup works well too. The overall sound quality is excellent which I expected. This is my 3rd Onkyo and I am still impressed. The ability to assign any input to any selection button and rename them is priceless. The ipod/mp3 player input on the front is very handy.

I love this receiver. Has everything I wanted, including powered zone 2 and works great. So far no negative points. Lots of input options, audyssee II for configuring your speakers according to your room.

I just happened to be looking at this unit on sale (because I already have an Onkyo 7.1 unit and have had Onkyo receivers for the last 20 years) and noticed the idiot Greg who reviewed this unit without even plugging it in and wondered how someone could be so stupid as to review something they never even used, and on top of that give it less than 5 stars on anything??? Moron. So I thought I would balance it out by also not buying it but giving it the rating all Onkyo receivers deserve.n Bonehead Greg, stick to reviewing things you know (which might not be much).
