Sierra Wireless’ newly unveiled HSUPA-capable product line includes the AirCard 881 PCMCIA Card. The AirCard 881 offers tri-band UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GPRS/EDGE for global connectivity and worldwide roaming.

The AirCard 881 has a built-in SIM card slot that lets you use your own cell phone SIM card (or get a new SIM card from your provider for 100% dedicated usage). When you use your SIM card, you'll instantly get Internet connection features of your existing account, without paying for a separate account for your laptop. If your exisiting account supports 3G access, then you will also get it on The AirCard 881. Keep in mind, that with your SIM card in the AirCard 881, you will not be able to answer or make regular calls. But this is the best way possible to get wireless Internet, whenever you need it, without a dedicated account connection!

 With Sierra Wireless HSPA AirCard® modems, mobile data customers will be able to send email attachments, upload information, and transmit data from portable devices at speeds up to a theoretical maximum speed of 2.0 Mbps. Downlink speeds are also improved over currently available models, with a theoretical maximum download speed of 7.2 Mbps.
The AirCard 881 is optimized for better fringe performance on North American networks.

I bought this card hoping to get a cheaper way to connect to the internet. The USB modems being offered by the major providers requires a new 2 year contract and a minimum monthly rate of $40 USD. This card works. Using my current cell account and for an additional fee of only $15 USD, I have unlimited data access to the internet. Works as featured. |

Product shipped very fast, tnx. I bought this card to do tethering from my cell phone SIM but found out after the fact that it is not allowed. My fault should have done my homework. My eval is low because I can not use it for the purpose for which I bought it for. |

I bought this card to work on a Fedora 11 Thinkpad T60. The card was sensed and drivers installed without any intervention. Only issue was that the firmware on the card was several versions behind and needed to be upgraded before network manager would work correctly with it. Once upgraded the card and OS worked well together. Sierra and ATT sites/forums have links to the Linux instructions. |

What is EDGE?
EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) is a radio signalling technology for 3G mobile networks. It boosts data transfer rates and volumes on existing GSM/GPRS networks by significantly increasing data transfer speeds.
How does EDGE work?
EDGE works by improving the signalling interface used to communicate over the radio waves. Typically, EDGE brings three times the performance of GPRS, achieving an average data rate of 80 to 160 kbps per user with mobile terminals
supporting 2-4 timeslots. It is great for applications that transfer large amounts of data between a mobile phone and enterprise networks - such as rich email messages that include attachments.

What are GSM and GPRS?
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) has become the most successful global mobile technology for mobile phones and digital cellular networks with more than one billion subscribers. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) brings the possibility of data services and applications based on Internet Protocol (IP) to GSM mobile networks. In current network implementations, GPRS data transfer speeds are between 30 to 40 Kbit/s.
What do GSM and GPRS do?
GSM is designed to deliver high-quality and secure mobile voice and data services to mobile users. Its success is based
on its inherent support for roaming and interoperability across a number of different networks and across a number of

Supplier will thoroughly inspect all phones for damage and missing items. Any returns that do not meet the following guidelines may be refused and returned to you or your credit amount may be reduced or no credit may be issued at all.
1. Any returned cell phone must include the original box with matching identification IMEI and Serial numbers. The Serial number on the phone MUST match the serial number we shipped you.
2. Supplier will not accept returns or process exchanges on phones that have physical damage or have been wet. We're sorry, but if you damage it, they can't accept it back. In the very rare event that your phone is damaged when you receive it the damage must be reported within 72 hours of receipt. In these cases we will issue a return authorization and EXCHANGE the damage phone for a like or similar model depending on availability, provided the serial number matches.
3. Supplier will not accept returns or process exchanges on phones damaged by water or any liquids. We know it might've been an accident, but whether it suffered a small splash of water or a swim in an ocean, they can't take it back. There are test indicators in the phone that let the supplier know that the handset has been wet. |
