I bought this hard drive a little over a year ago, at twice the price and I was hooked. I started out with just putting my media files on there and then slowly started moving everything on it. Ended up running programs on my internal and keeping files on my external. I started running into the problem of it disconnecting every now and then (should have been a sign). Then one day, it wouldn't turn on any more. I sent an email to Western Digital and all they could tell me to do was reformat the drive, tried that and still no luck. I would say to make sure to use this as a back-up and not file storage. Makes a great paper weight now though. |

I BROUTH MINE DEC 07, RUNS COOL, QUIET. I FILLED IT UP TO THE LAST 27GB. STILL RUNS WELL. AFTER 7 MONTH, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! WANT TO BUY ANOTHER ONE & SET UP MY RAID, TO PROTECT IRREPLACEABLE PIC'S & VIDEO. I WOULD RECOMMEND BUY SEVERAL.

I bought two MyBook Essential external drives thinking I'd devote one to archives and another to TiVo storage. Out of the box, it installed itself. Throughput is amazing. I love the styling, the simplicity and the interface. 2 cords only-power and USB 2.0. It's marvelous!
Days after I began using the MyBook with Vista I was beyond satisfied. My youngest daughter, a mother herself, called me for advice about buying an external HD because I'm the family geek. Her MacBook was filling up with baby pictures, what should she do? I said ''Just come see me; bring your Mac''. When she came over I gave her the second MyBook. She's thrilled; I'm happy. Baby's happy too-all's right with the world! Western Digital has great product and support. These make great gifts!
I can buy another one right here.
