BenQ W500 Home Theater LCD Projector Product Details

BenQ W500 720p LCD Projector
The W500 features an iris-like lens design that mimics our own eye, adjusting the aperture after analyzing the incoming video signal. The aperture is contracted during dark scenes for truer black tones and enhanced detail, while it is enlarged for bright scenes to maximize light output and enable a wider dynamic range. No matter what type of content is on, the W500 ensures that you get the very best viewing experience.

Senseye™ Clarity Enhancement
The W500 is designed to give you pristine HD-quality video even when the source is noise-ridden SD.

Go HD
The W500 not only converts SD content such as analog TV broadcasts to HD-quality video, but it analyzes an amazing 1,024 pixels in the source for each pixel in the final HD version for native HD-like picture quality.

Stop the noise
The W500 analyzes multiple frames in source video to identify and then eliminate pixels giving rise to visual noise, and also corrects for distortions resulting from too much compression.

Senseye™ Motion Optimization
The W500 remedies shortcomings in regular projectors when it comes to handling fast-changing video content.

Make the "jaggies" go away
Sophisticated Multi-Dimensional Diagonal Filtering (MDDF) technology smoothes away the "jaggies" that crop up along the edges of moving objects-even those lying at shallow angles of 5° to 7° while regular filters can only handle larger angles from 30° to 45°.

Look deeper
To remove artifacts around moving objects that result when converting interlaced SD video to non-interlaced HD video, the W500 examines twice as much data-four fields instead of the usual two-using advanced "motion-adaptive de-interlacing".

Senseye™ Color Management
Getting the widest possible range of colors and displaying them with precision accuracy is another key advantage of the W500.

Color correctly
The W500 achieves greater color accuracy by handling each color signal in the video input individually, applying its brightness value directly in rendering the video. In contrast, regular projectors use a sampling process, which inevitably results in a loss of information about specific color signals and color distortion in the final projection image.

Easy Installation and ease of use
Despite its rich feature set and flexible configuration options, the W500 makes getting things just right sublimely easy. And not only brings together the features you need, it's a genuine pleasure to use.

The BenQ W500 LCD Projector illuminates scenes with such vivid colors that are ideal for your viewing needs. If you dream of having a movie theater right in the comfort of your own home, or you are a gamer who thinks that a regular television is just not enough to quench your thirst for larger-than-life graphics, then having the BenQ W500 LCD Projector is a must.

The simple and elegant look of the BenQ W500 is more than meets the eye. It has a glossy white case exterior, which can easily blend with any interior design. The lens is placed one side and the heat exhaust on the other. There’s also a front exhaust, so you can virtually put this anywhere you like and worry not about overheating. The elegant white color of BenQ W500 LCD projector is harmonized with silver accents which mark the lens bezel. The control panel is top-mounted, while the connection panel is on the projector’s back.

Display-wise, the BenQ W500 will surely surpass your expectations. No need to worry about dark images or stressed eyes with this LCD projector. It has a lumens output of 1100 ANSI with an excellent 93% brightness uniformity. You’ll be amazed that when in low lamp mode, the LCD projector’s lumens output only drops 14% (629 ABSI), which is not too much of a drop off compared to the other LCD projectors in the market today.

The BenQ W500 LCD Projector also has a wide variety of modes and you can choose one that will best fit the comfort of your eyes. Sport lovers will love the dynamic setting since it is perfect for fast-paced image sequences. With this setting, you can also watch movies in ambient light without distorting the real brightness and contrast of the pictures. Cinema mode produces an impressive 333 ANSI lumens, suited for the more traditional room settings. You can set the lamp on low and the color temperature to "normal" to maximize your viewing pleasure.

It is highly suggested that you use Dynamic image mode with color temperature set to "normal" if you are using larger screens. This will net around 470 ANSI lumens. This amount of light is just enough to light up a 120-inch diagonal screen with comfortable color and brightness levels. In layman’s term, you don’t have to worry about pale and ‘dead’ images when you are projecting a movie in a large medium. The adjustable setting of the projector helps to stay true to the image quality of the movie. You want your very own cinema house? Possible with the BenQ W500 LCD Projector.

You would not want to take your eyes off the screen, thanks to the LCD projector’s image sharpness. The picture details in high-definition 1080p material are displayed with accuracy, and much to our surprise, even the standard definition images do not suffer any degradation at all. What’s really cool about the BenQ W500 is its horizontal and vertical lens shift feature. The LCD projector can be easily mounted on ceilings or other standard places like tables or shelves. It has an overall vertical range of just over two screen heights, thus the image can be located totally on top of or below the lens centerline. You can also move the image 1/3 of the image width horizontally, in either direction.

The total control is also in your hands. The BenQ W500 LCD projector comes with a remote control with a very strong backlight for easier access even under the dimmest of lighting conditions.

The BenQ W500 LCD Projector, considering its price, the wide range of modes and features, and the quality of the images it projects, is really money well spent.

I've owned this projector for several months now and I love it, there is a tiny bit of screen door effect, but the color is great. I built a 120 inch screen for it before the projector arrived, but with an 18 foot room the image was too big, so i just use the wall which gives me something like 250'' diag. image with no wash out(wow), and on a cream color non smooth wall, i still have no problems with color or hot spotting. dvd and HD directv are amazing, it's not great at standard def channels, but still looks ok. having your own movie theater is the best. and concerts, you feel like you are front row live. for the price there is nothing better out there. everyone who comes over is sold on getting one. it's not great for daytime if you can't black out the room, but that's what the plasma is for.

I had decided to purchase this projector thinking that it would be a nice addition to my home. Well, it turned out to be that and more. The reviewer before me says this pays for itself. This is the truth. DVD movies look amazing. Who needs to buy a ticket to the theater? Gaming is much more intense. Replay value thus increases, saving money that would have spent on another game. The only con is the fan sound, but my surround system drowns it out. Other than that, it's money well spent.

Set up a home theater in my garage...projector was very simple to install and get set up right out of the box. It has more adjustments than the average user will ever use. I have it connected to an xobx 360, HD through cable and an upconverting DVD player. Everything looks great! Gaming has never been better and with the price of going to the movies the projector pays for itself. The entire family loves it. This is a great buy!

I installed this projector in a home theater with a ~122'' screen and am very impressed. This has got to be the best pictures i've ever seen come from a projector. The contrast is very good (on an off-white, slightly gray screen), and the brightness is good enough to watch t.v. with the light on in the room. My only complaint is the fan is a bit noisy, even in economic mode,(projector is above seating area), but otherwise I don't think there is a better projector for the price.

I received this projector and had it installed in less than an hour. The most difficult part of installation was getting the ceiling mount on the projector and on the ceiling! Everything worked perfectly out of the box without any adjustments. It's a little loud since the projector was installed directly above one of the couches and since I live in Denver I have the High Altitude Setting on (turns on the cooling fan) - but with the surround sound booming, who can hear a tiny cooling fan?!?
