Designed with the home office user in mind, MySecureDoc Personal Edition is the only product on the retail market that offers complete protection of personal sensitive information in case your laptop or desktop is lost or stolen. Every byte of data is encrypted. MySecureDoc(tm) secures residual data, temporary files, paging files and hidden partitions left unprotected by other encryption methods.
The Personal Edition uses the same FIPS 140-1 level 2 validated cryptographic engine as our certified Professional Edition, and incorporates the AES 256-bit encryption algorithm certificate number 1 (ONE) issued by the National Institute of Standard and Technology NIST.
While the product's encryption ability is impressive, usability will be the deciding factor for a product of this nature. Luckily, WinMagic took the end users' needs to heart and built what amounts to a seamless experience. The product encrypts and decrypts data behind the scenes and in real-time; end users will not even notice the process taking place. Although the encryption/decryption process saddles the system with a performance hit, most standard tasks will not be impacted, thanks in part to WinMagic's ultra-efficient algorithms and the inherent speed of today's processors.
MySecureDoc Personal Edition works with MS Windows versions 2000 and XP. The product installs as part of the system boot architecture and asks for authentication before the native OS brings up a logon screen. That style of authentication prevents an intruder from bypassing the encryption capabilities of the product.
Installation of the product is straightforward when disks are converted over to an encrypted format. The conversion process can take anywhere from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending upon system speed and drive size. However, MySecureDoc(tm) has the ability to be an "install and forget" solution-install it once and everything takes place behind the scenes with very little fuss or muss.

I purchased this for my Acer Tablet PC. The full-disk encryption works very well. I tried booting with a Linux live CD and Linux couldn't see the encrypted host-drive. Just as Jan A has said, the removable media product isn't worth the ''Plus'' money you'll spend. Thumb-drive encryption does work (once you select the HD* and not the drive letter). However, you will need to purchase and install the PE Plus on every computer that you wish to use the encrypted thumb-drive on. My $0.02? Purchase the Personal Edition for Full-disk encryption and use the Open-Source program TrueCrpyt (www.truecrypt.org) in it's traveler mode. TrueCrypt offers more encryption algorithms, is VERY secure and it is FREE.

The low rating is for the PLUS edition. The basic disk encryption is great. I am waiting to hear from WinMagic, so this is a provisional thumbs down for the removable Media product. I successfully encrypted my laptop computer, but want to encrypt my thumb drive so I can carry sensitive data from the desktop at work to the laptop at home. I don't need to encrypt the office computer. The license is for ''a single computer'' but the instructions say the software must be installed on ANY computer that will read encrypted removable media. I tried to install it on my desktop anyway, just to see how it works on the thumb drive. On installation reboot, the screen came up asking me to set up an account, then my computer totally crashed - blue screen. I had to call my computer guy to help me restore the registry from my backup before I could use the computer again. I would not recommend the PLUS edition. The basic product for hard disk encryption is just fine and works great on my laptop.
