Detailed Features
Features
AMD Athlon™
64 FX Dual-Core
AMD64 improves performance for many applications by evolving this industry-standard
technology from a 32- to a 64-bit architecture. 64-bit computing allows
operating systems and software to process more data and access a tremendous
amount of memory. AMD64 is an industry-standard approach to 64-bit technology
that combines innovation, simplicity, and foresight to deliver the next
generation of performance—today.
HyperTransport™
Technology
HyperTransport™ technology is a high performance, easy-to-implement
system interconnect technology originally invented by AMD. It is designed
to increase overall system performance by removing I/O bottlenecks, increasing
bandwidth, and reducing latency. HyperTransport technology implemented in
the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX processor enables a system bus to run at 1600MHz.
AMD Cool‘n’Quiet™
Technology
In the past, increased processor performance has often meant increased power
consumption and increased noise levels. AMD Cool‘n’Quiet™
technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon™ 64 processor-based
systems that can effectively lower the power consumption and enable a quieter-running
system while delivering performance on demand, for the ultimate computing
experience.
Enhanced
Virus Protection
All AMD64 processors, including the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX, AMD Athlon 64,
and Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors, are enabled with Enhanced Virus Protection.
With Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you will be able
to fully utilize the security technology*. By providing extra security at
the platform level, AMD lets you easily embrace the future of computing.

The shipping was delayed becasue of a storm but arrived. I was upgrading from an AMD 4200+ since this was the last 939 socket king built. It went on sale later on but I had no use for the sale bundles so no beef with me. The chip? I had some stuttering issues with Rainbow 6: Vegas on my system I built and it removed all of them. I currently rank number 2 on 3DMark '06 with similar systems to mine and I only changes my memory latency down a half. This processor is a beast. It only runs 3 degrees Celcius warmer than the previous processor at full load. Motherboard is a bit warmer with all the information travelling through, no doubt but a new 120mm case fan solved that. For what it's worth, if you are sticking with 939 socket grab these while they are cheap. Yeah there are some more better things out there now, but for the price now and having a green sticker on your rig instead of the blue some of are used to, it's well worth it. The extra L2 cache is great!

This processor is amazing. If you listen to reviews like DEVELOPER, you will be terribly mislead. He sounds technical, but it's not the whole story. He doesn't tell you about things like the ''instruction set.'' That is why AMD has (until recently) had lower speeds than Intel. an AMD that operates at 2.2 GHz (San Diego 4000)is faster than a Pentium 4 that is 3GHz. Simpy because of the way the processor works. 2 totally different companies with 2 totally different products. Now the Core2Duo is out, and it has even LOWER speeds. So keep in mind, DEVELOPER brings up the great speeds (2.97GHz, and 4.2GHz), and then he says that the Intel Conroe will run circles around the FX-60... even though the Conroe E6300 is only 1.86 GHz.
The Core2Duo (Conroe) does not run circles around it. As far as games go, the Core2 MAYBE gets about 20 or 30 frames per second better.... but BOTH processors get over 100FPS! The human eye doesn't see a difference until 15FPS

Wanting to get more milage out of my ASUS 939 pin MoBo, I upgraded to this FX-60. To my pleasent surprise, it's fairly cool runing and performance wise, made a huge difference. Shopping around, I can tell you Tigerdirect.ca pricing had the the competition beat cold for this CPU! Cheers, Jeff.

This is a great CPU, Not the fastest but if you already own a 939 pin board then this is a good upgrade. dEvEloPeR showed his stupidity when he posted that the conroe is 'almost (2x) faster' Check the charts at Toms Hardware, while this isnt the fastest chip anymore it is usually somewhere near the top

Received in 4 days!!! Using Multipliers only got it up to 2.9Ghz with 2 Gig of Corsair (TWINX1024-XMS3200 x 2, i.e. 4 x CMX512), the RAM is good up to 240Mhz so some day I'll see how far this processor will go. For now (warranty period) I'll keep everything stock (200Mhz x 13 = 2.6Ghz). Great shipping and great price (I actually got mine for $507.99)
HyperTransport™ technology is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase the communication speed between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment up to 48 times faster than some existing technologies.
HyperTransport™ technology helps reduce the number of buses in a system, which can reduce system bottlenecks and enable today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
HyperTransport™ technology is designed to:
Provide significantly more bandwidth than current technologies
Use low-latency responses and low pin counts
Maintain compatibility with legacy PC buses while being extensible to new
SNA (Systems Network Architecture) buses.
Appear transparent to operating systems and offer little impact on peripheral drivers.
