Plextor PX-M402U USB 2.0 Real-Time Digital Video Converter.
Plextor’s ConvertX PX-M402U is the ultimate solution for encoding video
into the DivX®, MPEG-4, MPEG-1/Video CD and MPEG-2/DVD formats. The PX-M402U
captures video from TVs, VCRs, DVD players and camcorders; automatically converting
video with its built-in DivX® Certified hardware encoder. The PX-M402U’s
multi-format encoder chip allows you to capture video straight from your video
source and automatically convert it while you are capturing your video. Using
a hardware encoder can save hours of time since it encodes video into the chosen
format while you are capturing the video and provides excellent video quality.
Easy and Powerful Video Editing and DVD Creation Software Provided
ConvertX™ comes with the powerful and easy-to-use WinDVD Creator 2 software
from InterVideo with Dolby® Digital and DivX® encoding support. The software
guides you through each step for capturing and editing video, adding effects,
and burning Video CDs and DVDs. One click is all it takes to pull in video from
a camcorder or another analog source. You can create CDs or DVDs without spending
all day learning complicated programs. WinDVD Creator’s storyboard interface
makes the entire DVD-making process as easy as moving pictures around on a computer
screen. Create a CD or DVD in four easy steps: capture, edit, create and share.
With the software’s professional grade features, you can select recording quality,
use a countdown recording timer and view real-time encoding playback. Editing
controls include trimming, title insertion, MPEG cutter and combine/divide video
file.
For a limited time only, Plextor is bundling, free of charge, Ulead VideoStudio

It was advertised to come with Ulead but mine did not come with it. I had to load the drivers twice before it would work and when I loaded the updates it quite working. Works well now but I bought it to capture video to input into Power Point presentations and after many hours of work I have discovered that it does not capture or save to any compression schemes that are compatible with power point. The video editing software is ok and simmilar to Pinnacle but not as much capability especialy for audio manipulation. Also none of the compresion schemes that it records in can be opened by Pinnacle version 7 unless it is rendered and saved into a Dvi type II first.

Bought this last week to convert some old 8mm camcorder tapes to digital format before my 8mm camcorder dies completely. IT worked well to burn direct to DVD - as well as to save the file to may computers HD. I did notice that the burned DVD played in one DVD player in my home - but not in another. The wide array of formats is a bit confusing.

This capture card is teh pwnag3! I hooked my xbox360 up to it via y-splitters so that I could still play on my TV and record at the same time. It's extremely easy to set up, just make sure you install the software first. The WinDVD Creator is great for editing captured footage ability to split video frames down to 1 second (while Windows Movie maker is about 10 seconds) which makes transitions very smooth and exact. You'll notice while making a video (montage) that there's lag between clips, but once you create the video, it runs very smoothly. This product is flawless and the default editing program it comes with surpasses anything you'd have stock on your computer. *Great for gamers.

I can't speak for Windows support on this, but under Linux with MythTV it works flawlessly. In MythTV it only supports MPEG-4, but that's exactly what I want - good quality and great compression. I have two of these and the video quality is good. No audio sync problems, and the quality is great; at a setting of about 2200Kbits, it comes out just under 1GB per hour of video at 720x480 resolution. It's an excellent buy for anyone looking to build a MythTV box.
What Is USB 2.0?
USB 1.1 was great when it was introduced almost a decade ago. But
the newer USB 2.0 transfers data dramatically faster - up to 40 times
quicker. Plus, USB 2.0 provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and
storage applications, which are growing larger every year. Also to your
advantage is the fact that USB 2.0 is forward and backward compatible with
USB 1.1, which means that cables and connectors made for the original USB
configuration will also work perfectly in a USB 2.0 port, though some newer
devices are specifically designed for USB 2.0. It is always a good
idea to verify the version of USB supported by each device you want to use.
