With Dual Core, 64-Bit Support,
Multi-Tasking Has Never Been So Easy
The A8R-MVP supports AMD 939-pin Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core processor with
1MB x2 or 512KB x2 L2 cache which is based on 64-bit architecture. It features
better multithreaded / multitasking performance than Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64.
ATI's CrossFire boosts image quality along with rendering speed, eliminating
the need to crank down screen resolutions to get the high image quality you
want. CrossFire ignites with the higher antialiasing, anisotropic filtering,
shading, and texture settings you desire. Adjust your display configurations,
experiment with your advanced 3D settings, and check the effect with a real-time
3D-rendered preview within ATI's Catalyst™ Control Center to rule your
CrossFire system. Enjoy the extraordinary CPU power from the latest dual-core
CPU. The advanced processing technology contains two physical CPU cores with
individually dedicated L2 cache to satisfy the rising demand for more powerful
processing capability. Get ready to take your PC performance to a level you’ve
only dreamed about. As always, we offer you the best products at the best prices
– and this remarkable motherboard is no exception. But hurry – word
travels fast in the gaming and extreme computing circles - and these boards
are creating some electrifying buzz. They will not stay on our warehouse shelves
for long.

I've had this board for about 2 days now and it is the most unstable thing I've ever dealt with. Every time I restarted the system would hang, freeze or not even post. This is all stock clocks. I have an X2 4800+, 2 gig corsair ram, X1800XT and seagate 300 gb sata drive.

I purchased this board in 10/06 and it worked fine for a short period, it freezes up quite often, I've tried everything to aleviate this problem but no success. I am running an AMD X2 4600 w/1gig of Ultra 3200 memory Pny 256 meg video card, 2/Seagate sata hard drives. I am not very pleased with this board and would have to think long and hard about getting another Asus board. If anyone knows of or has any fixes for this freeze up problem I would appriciate the help. foxman3@aim.com

I just bought an A8R-MVP MB and it takes forever to set up raid. It takes 2 min. to find the HD's, then it takes 2 min for the XP CD to start, then it takes 15 min. afer ''Setup is inspecting your hardware'' so you can press F6 to load the raid drivers. If you miss the F6 input you have to do the whole thing again. I understand Bios applications are slow but this is too slow. I'll bet the guy who wrote it never had to install one.

I believe the board has potential to be a really good board but it has alot of problems at the moment. I believe many people are experiencing usb problems even with updating the bios. I have a amd dual 4200 and it seems to really be running slow on this board. I believe I'll save up for the A8n 32 Sli deluxe. Just too many usb crashes with this one

I think this mobo is a good buy and has all the inputs I will ever need. The dual kingston 512 ram install ok but the board was dead. Removed the ram from 1st dimm slot and I had power up. Ram checked and reinstalled back in dimm 1st slot and the pwr up problem was Gone! The unknown question,is the dimm socket eractic or not. This is my first mobo purchased online. I also selected the ATI X1300pro pcie video card and the AMD athlon64 3700+ processor. All went well but discovered when turning off the system that some fans continue to run very slowly including the mad dog 550W p/s fans. The Q fan
option in the bios had been disabled. I am not a game player so only one video card. Do I really need to up grade the bios and all drivers on my board. The H.D.LED stays on when power is turned off but it still works as usual. I normally use only Pentiums boards so this is all new and i am still a novice at this stuff. Any help appreciated tomradar@msn.com

Hyper-Transport Technology
HyperTransport™ technology is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase the communication speed between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment up to 48 times faster than some existing technologies.
HyperTransport™ technology helps reduce the number of buses in a system, which can reduce system bottlenecks and enable today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
HyperTransport™ technology is designed to:
Provide significantly more bandwidth than current technologies
Use low-latency responses and low pin counts
Maintain compatibility with legacy PC buses while being extensible to new
SNA (Systems Network Architecture) buses.
Appear transparent to operating systems and offer little impact on peripheral drivers.
Advanced PC Build-It-Yourself Guide
Not too long ago one had to be eligible for the Genius IQ Club (Mensa)
in order to build a computer. That is no longer the case. Today’s computer
manufacturers have made it much easier for the enterprising do-it-yourselfer
to create a great system.

PCI
Express - Delivering Dramatically Improved Graphics
Doubling the bandwidth of the AGP 8X graphics bus, the new PCI Express represents
the most profound change to desktop architecture in nearly a decade. PCI
Express replaces AGP, allowing much larger amounts of data to move between
the graphics card and the CPU, and will soon replace PCI expansion slots
as well. The PCI standard allows for a 32-bit bus with a maximum throughput
of 133MB/s. By contrast, PCI Express will run at 2.5GHz. PCI Express is
a two-way serial connection that carries data in packets along two pairs
of point-to-point data lines, compared to the single parallel data bus of
traditional PCI. Gamers will benefit from an incredible upgrade in video
quality with PCI Express, because it will allow for more powerful video
cards, inspiring developers to create more realistic environments that will
make games come alive with astonishingly lifelike colors and images. Video
enthusiasts will also benefit because PCI Express will accommodate higher-quality
video throughput (amount of data you can send per second). As network television
moves over to HDTV broadcasts, PCI Express positions the PC platform for
integration into the living room, while also allowing for HD video editing
and other bandwidth-intensive tasks. PCI Express is compatible with existing
PCI drivers and software operating systems and is designed to co-exist with
current PCI hardware.
