I've been playing with VOIP and PBX's for awhile now. I've always used old PC's and spare parts. For my small business that I run I did just that. But then the old parts gave out and I had to order something new. I considered building this for quite some time but the original server dying gave me that little push. Ordered on monday, recieved all parts on Tuesday. Put it together the next day and had my system up by Wednesday. Would have been tuesday but I orignally had Trixbox installed. Trixbox did not work with the chipset so I had to find an alternatvie. AsteriskNOW is that alternative and it works great. Stable since build. Low power consumption. Quite. Can handle way more than the four plus lines, three phones and bridging to another office that I do.

This is a compact versatile barebones system.
This unit DOES NOT come with the ICE Gene Cooling System, so you will either need to purchase it separately or make sure you buy a processor with a fan. (There is no fan behind the grill pictured)
There is also a ''hidden'' half height optical drive bay concealed by the front panel graphics.
You can get either a bezel or bezel w/ optical drive directly from Shuttle's Customer Service Dept. (as of writing it's $17 bezel / $79 Bezel+Drive )
I'm still in the process of gathering part's to build my system, so I'm unable to review how compatible it is with my configuration...
But figured I'd share my info about the front panel & cooling system.

Needed to get rid of a dying P4 system in a GIGANTIC tower that served no purpose anymore (I'm really a mac guy)... that said, this was SUPER EASY to assemble from leftover parts and the new Pentium Dual Core/Fan/RAM I bought. So for UNDER $200 I got a new system. Was going to make this a linux based machine, but after trying for HOURS to make a USB-stick bootable installer, I gave up and instead decided to start playing with Win 7 Beta. Don't really miss the internal optical drive - I converted an internal DVDRW drive to external USB for when I need it. All in all I love it - wouldn't change a thing!

I wanted an HTPC w/ XP MCE to watch DVDs from regions 1, 2 & 4, divx vids and play some WoW. The PCI slot limits the graphics adapter in Vista but in XP ther are so many to choose from for so little money, I opted for a 256MB Radeon 9250. Awesome. In behind the mylar cover is a slot for a slim cd/dvd drive and beneath the stickering to the left of the power button and LEDs are slots to mount front usb and audio. This little system that could kicks major butt for the price.

**Value=5** $320 for a system capable of running Windows 7 Beta? Not bad.
**Features=4** I originally wanted to drop in an IDE drive but could not get my IDE DVD reader to work at the same time. Using an SATA drive solved this problem.
**Quality=4** I think there is a problem with IDE. Couldn't get two IDE drives working. Not a big deal considering the power and size of the system.
**Performance=5** Windows 7 failed to give me a Windows Experience base score but performs very well with a Celeron 1.60GHz and 2GB 667Mhz DDR2.
