I was really looking forward to the Ooma system and replacing my old landline system. The unit and materials are very high quality and my hopes were high. But, the voice quality of the calls broke my heart. Also, the outsourced tech support from India was very frustrating. I kept the system for two weeks, but important words and numbers were dropped every 10 to 20 seconds, and outgoing calls were difficult to connect. The features are great, but ultimately, I couldn't tolerate the droped words, buzzing and hissing. With heavy heart I returned the product to the vendor for a refund. Oooma is a great idea, and it almost works, but almost isn't good enough.
OOMA is the way to go.

Nothing to Bark about this phone...I was using the Magic Jack...The Magic Jack used up so much resources it slowed my PC down. Have to run it through your PC from a USB port...Also minimized my games when someone called, what a pain that was. The OOMA phone don't do that since its connected to your Modem NOT your PC....
So I bought the OOMA phone... Best decision I ever made... Sound quality is Great... seems to be the same as AT&T quality...And I love being able to talk long distance Free and never have to Pay another Phone Bill... I Have DSL and I kept my Internet but turned off my phone so No more phone bills. And I love the Call Waiting and Caller ID works great... I have no complaints against the OOMA Phone... I'm Trying to get my parents to Buy one... So I would recommend this to anyone.

Ooma is essentially a VOIP service, similar to Vonage, except you pay around $225 up front for the device, and then nothing after that, unless you choose to continue the Premiere service, extra bells & whistles for $13/month or $100/year.
I replaced my regular phone service with ooma, so I no longer have a monthly phone bill at all; with the monthly savings from not having a phone bill anymore, ooma will pay for itself in about eight months. (I chose not to keep the Premiere services.)
The documentation in the box and online is very good for basic setups. They don't document more advanced setups at all, such as connecting all the phone jacks in the house to one ooma hub (with no Scouts). The forums at the ooma website are very helpful for this.
The ''port'' of my existing number from the old phone company to ooma did not go well: it took two full days to fix. YMMV.
Overall, I'm very satisfied.

I go this as a second home phone about 8 months ago, set it up in 10 minutes, and have been breathing a sigh of relief ever since. My Mom (the original phone hog), who is well into her 80s, uses this for umpteen calls every day, each lasting up to an hour. She has reported absolutely no problems with voice quality or service reliability, even when calling India. Believe me, she is extremely persnickety and would have complained interminably had there been any deficiency. In fact, she actually praised the service, which was a complete shock to us.
I have been fleeced by phone companies for over 35 years and am happy to report that this is the best option ever, provided you have broadband internet access. Why this innovation remains a well-guarded secret remains a total mystery to me. Surely, we are witnessing the triumph of phone company advertising over common sense.
