The drive is plug and play. It installed the drivers for Vista within 30 seconds and the drive was ready.
The drive comes formatted (FAT). I re-formatted to NTFS. It took about 7 hours so you may want to keep it ''FAT''. The blue hard drive light is very bright as mentioned by another reviewer. The case will scratch easily so be careful. You can lay the drive flat or vertical with the included leg. I tried their tech support with the chat option and was answered within 1 minute and the tech was knowledgeable. You just need the serial number of the unit.
I have 2 laptops and 2 desktops in my household. I created a folder for each computer on the Iomega and backed up all the documents, music, videos and programs. Its very versatile. I may purchase another and just place home videos and music on it. You will never run out of space.

I'm sorry to hear Bob had a bad experience with this drive, but so far so good with mine. It is nearly silent (even quieter than my WD MyBook which I always thought was very quiet). For just over $100 I can't even buy a 750GB drive let alone an enclosure to go with it. The enclosure is fairly nice looking. Solidly built aluminium. It's got a ubiquitous blue LED of course (not that I'm complaining, I like them). Using it as a TimeMachine back-up drive on my MAC so I cannot comment on the software that comes with it. |

This drive looks good, has an important ON-OFF button, easy to instal but,it is very noisy with cracking, popping sound as it writes. Which is not acceptable and indicates problems. So if yours makes the same cracking sound, while transfering files: delete your files, re-format and return it! |
