Features
- BrightPixel
BrightPixel is the Volari™ V3 fully-programmable 3D graphics engine which implement all features of Microsoft DirectX 8.1 Vertex and Pixel Shaders in hardware for highest 3D performance. DirectX 8.1 marks a key milestone in the advances of graphics hardware architecture which evolves from the use of fixed 3D functions into full programmability for better image quality and rendering flexibility. With the 3D rendering rate of 2 pixels per clock and 2 tri-linear textures per pixel, the Volari™ V3 can operate at up to 200MHz engine clock. Also included is 16:1 anisotropic mapping for best viewing of 3D objects at an angle. - CoolPower
CoolPower is XGI proprietary power management technology for reducing both active and standby power consumption of the Volari™ V3 to a minimum. CoolPower employs a combination of software and hardware techniques which permit the end-user to select either highest performance or longest battery life while running their applications of interest. - SmartTile
SmartTile is the new memory interface architecture that optimizes for maximum bandwidth utilization by storing pixels in 4x4 rectangular tiles instead of traditional scan lines. Since these tiles can be cascaded to cover the entire display area, memory bandwidth efficiency up to 90% can be achieved. Such high efficiency is a pre-requisite for high 3D graphics performance. With a 128-bit memory bus, the Volari™ V3 can support a peak data transfer rate of 8.0 Gbytes/sec. - UltraClear
UltraClear is the Volari™ V3 special LCD display technology that greatly improves the image quality of a standard TFT panel in real-time video applications. UltraClear eliminates typical “ghosting” effects in watching DVD on a LCD screen and produces clearer and sharper image often found in much more expensive panels.

Bought the Chaintech Volari V3 and it worked great out of the box. I'm surprised with some of the comments below. I've been using the card for now a few months and had no problems whatsoever. Screensavers in 3D worked fine. As an oldie fan, I ran games like Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Jedi Knight 2, Battlefield 1942, Serious Sam and Tomb Raider 4 without any issue whatsover, all of them worked flawlessly without any hassle. DVDs ran fine, and the same goes for WMV and DivX files. I plugged the card to a TV without problems. Even Age of Empires 3 ran properly. I've got the feeling that most of the users who had problems did not read the install instructions and the manual. It's a good thing that idiots can't make this card work and don't know how to read because it only makes the card cheaper for me!!!!

The card is cheap. That's pretty much the best thing that can be said about it. It struggles to offer even the most basic 3D support. Run any 3D screensaver that comes with Windows XP and watch it stutter, and this is on a system with 512mb and an Athlon XP2400+ and the latest video drivers. It flat out refuses to play most games - even the six year old Unreal Tournament won't work properly. Hey, I don't expect much for $35 but I do expect it to be able to run software that came out when the Pentium II was cutting edge. Although the card boasts 128mb of RAM it seems pointless as any game that requires that much graphics memory will almost certainly be unplayably slow on this card, or more likely, just not run at all. Oddly, one of the few games that will work is Halo. It doesn't look great, but it is possible get a reasonable frame rate. Many other applications that make even minimal use of 3D crash with this card installed. Even Flash and Java screw up sometimes. Avoid.

Price alone gives it 2 Stars. Graphically challenged, although it performed better than or equal to cards of simmilar disposition, on the windows XP desktop windows moved a bit choppy, and 2D performance was not the best. If you are planning on saving up for a better card buy this one with some of the money as it does operate better than apparent equals in it's playing field.

The first was tricky until I got the drivers and BIOS right. After that, it worked so well with both DVI and VGA for photo and video work, I bought a second. Good value.

display scrolled ''choppy'' and lagged quite a bit when opening pages. Formatted and installed fresh and used updated drivers from website and same thing. Exchanged for a better card. Only a two because of the price and others seem to have success
