Since the introduction of 7200 RPM hard drives, passive cooling for HDDs were no longer sufficient. As with any computer component, a hard drive can only perform reliably if it is kept within its specified operating temperatures - the cooler the hard drive, the more efficiently it can perform. As the spindle motors inside the drive spin, the temperature of the hard drive rises dramatically, often leading to read errors, reduced life cycles, and even loss of data should the temperature surpass the heat threshold.

Seems to be keeping my hdd temp lower then normal altho I haven't tried running my hdd without it. Thats the name of the game tho right, keep things as cool as possible for longevity and integrity. |

This one is really worth buying for. My 2TB hd used to run on 45 Celcius now it runs around 38 celcius. This definitely saves the life of my drive and probably save some data too. Sometimes my machines becomes laggy when the hd temperature goes up but with this little shiny thing I barely get lagged out no longer.. |

This thing works it just does what it is supposed to do fans are really quite and they seem to be holding up I have run them for about 48 hours straight now and no problems |

Product arrived in one day. Fitted to the drive, without a problem. However, my case has a steel cage for holding a 3 drive sandwich. 2 hard drives with an a floppy center. I had to ditch the floppy and bend in the metal tabs to make the drive and cooler combo fit. But, it's doing exactly what I need, keeping my 500 cool. It's clean, quiet and hopefully it will last. |
