Local Security Solution continues to provide control over local Windows administrator accounts and passwords. Key benefits include identifying what accounts are in the administrator group, provisioning standard local accounts, and being able to randomize passwords by machine per policy. Randomized passwords are encrypted and stored on the central management server. These passwords are only disclosed and to approved administrators and all disclosures are logged for an audit trail. New to this release are an updated interface which provides faster interaction, numerous additional tasks for configuring local system security, and the support of the Symantec Management Platform.
Application Control Solution compliments Local Security Solution with its ability to manage application execution in a secure manner. Applications can have their rights elevated when the user does not have administrator privileges and the application needs such rights to function. Applications can also have their privileges demoted when a user has administrator privileges so that the risk of malware is reduced. There is also blacklisting, whitelisting, and Arellia's "Orange Listing" which provide numerous options for locking down an application when execution is desired, but security risks need to be reduced.
Security Analysis Solution is built on industry standards such as SCAP, OVAL, and CVE, which enables administrators to assess and remediate security configurations on Windows systems. Security Analysis Solution is SCAP validated allowing it to consume security profiles from the National Institute of Standards as well as other SCAP formatted profiles. Remediation is automated yet requires approval to ensure proper change control.
