From Suck to Rock - Via chipset drivers.
This is to save people some trouble that I went through the past 2 days. Initiually this mobo performed slow, slower than my 2.26 Ghz Intel, with a 3D Mark 2005 score of 3100 versus my Intel at approx 4300. The CPU got a score of 900 Mhz versus 2Gig. After installing newer bios revisions, re-installing older ones, and many other adjustments and memory swaps, the thing that fixed it was the chipset drivers. The version of the chipset Southbridge drivers that come on the CD is too old. So ... get the new drivers at http://www.viaarena.com/ Since I am using windows 2000, a 32bit OS, I installed the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, NOT the via pro64 drivers. The vesion I downloaded was version 4.56v
So , my CPU score went up from 900 Mhz to 4694 Mhz, and my 3D Mark score went up from 3121 to 4839 .
Phew , just when I thought I wasted money moving from Intel to AMD.

Great combination. Great price. This was an easy build. It was also my first Asus mobo. I am very happy with the mobo features and speed of this system. The combination of CPU and on-board gigabit NIC increased my download speed drastically. Just make sure you buy a good case and power supply for this combo...they deserve it.
