NOT Linux Friendly

GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AMD 760 AM3+ Motherboard

Purchased this motherboard as a combo unit that included an AMD processor. As far as the actual installation in a ''build'' machine goes (I'm not a noobie), it was quick, easy and flawless. The problem arose when installing Linux and no network connection could be found. Checked all that could be checked --OK --Resort to Google for answers. Only to find that Gigabyte uses A T H E R O S LAN controllers on ''some'' of their boards and Linux does NOT play well with A T H E R O S. Catch22 --Since there was no Internet connection I could not institute a complete install nor fix the problem. Purchased new NIC --yet to be delivered. I expect all to go well as soon as new NIC is installed (hence the 5-star value rating). In the meantime, I've a great looking box o rocks and my client is hopping mad at the delay. So, Note To Linux Users: Check the LAN controller specs on ANY board you're thinking of... BEFORE you buy it!

Good multi-purpose processor

AMD FX-4100 3.60 GHz Quad Core AM3+ Unlocked CPU

Received three of these as part of bare-bones combos. These computers are replacing old XP machines that can't be upgraded to Windows 7. This processor is fast for any office work, and of course having four cores means the system won't bog down when users have 7 or 8 programs open and a virus scan starts running.

Can't beat this processor for the price. The stock cooling fan might need to be upgraded if you plan to overclock it. No complaints and it's been running error free for weeks......
