Excellent Processor

The 4th Gen i7 processor makes all the difference. Since it ran super cool initially with 4-120mm fans, I overclocked it slightly and now nothing can get in it's way. Great purchase!

great...but...

I used to have an Amd processor when I was able to afford a gtx 780 I realized I need a processor and motherboard compatible with pcie 3.0 aka intel I already had a h100i and wanted to over clock it why the i7 I got used to the 8 core cpu Amd offers and just cant live without it. Also after reading the other reviews I came to the conclusion that this cpu shouldn't be rated so low because it has a bad a bad heat sink fan. Yes it is an awful but intel makes these things for a stock clock speed to be low profile and inexpensive for intel even though its a k series unlike Amd who make the heat sink fan with copper heat pipes ment for over clocking with their black edition processors. bottom line if you get this processor you are planing to over clock and you need and aftermarket cooler even a cheap one like the hyper 212.

Good Processor..... Crappy Fan

I'm still waiting to really put it through its paces. You would think that with a processor of this price and quality that Intel would include something better than a $2 Fan. My attempts at overclocking ended up with the system not booting because the processor was too hot. AMD gets a much higher rating on this aspect. The Fan they included with the FX 4170 Quad Core I used on my last build never gave me any problems. Nice and cool. If you buy this processor order a quality fan to go withy it right away. Te fan that Intel gives you should go right in the trash.

Excellent, but could be better

This is the second 4th Gen i7 chip I've purchased. On the last one, the heatsink fan was DOA, but the chip was fine. Added an enormous after market cooler and the chip is nice and cool, even when running the unit for days on end, or during heavy graphics. I'd like to know how Microsoft calculated their windows experience, as this latest iteration from Intel supposedly highest speed chip only rates an 8.1 of 10 in Win8. I have had no problems with this chip, speed is great, no chokes or sputters.

From 3770K to 4770K and Happy.

I installed this on an Asus Z87-Expert Motherboard and have had excellent results. Using the AI Suite III, 4 way optimization overclocked it to 4.7 GHz. with just one click and stable. Using the Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme Close Loop Liquid Cooling, at 4.7 GHz. my tempts did not exceed 75C at loads and 37C Idle. Later I down clocked it through the bios to 4.5 GHz. with a Core Voltage of 1.212 and stable, the tempts. did not exceed 72C at loads and 33C idle. I did not downclocked it because it was inestable, I downclocked it to extend the life span of the CPU. Besides 4.5 GHz. is a high enough overclocked for my use. I do a lot of video conversion, editing, Blu ray and DVD burning.

not impressed

windows rating index of 7.8,my i9-930 was over 7.9,this is suppose to be better right? The temps are all over the place too, at idle temps are at 28-51c,thought it could be my thermal paste job so i took cpu cooler back out and redid the thermal paste, now seems stable at 28-36 still spikes up alot, didnt have this problem with my i7-930. Cause thermals spike alot cpu fans throttles up and down alot and is anoying so had to adjust fan speed controls to even out the speed throttleing. If u already have a quadcore or a previous gen i7,dont bother to upgrade, dispite the benchmarks that reviews are raving about not seing the performance here, plus temps are all over the place means that they skipped out on quality and the cpu seems shotty.
