Bad Idea.. buy an iPod

I bought this device because I wanted an android functioning device for my daughter without getting her an android phone on my cell data plan. HORRIBLE mistake. Out of the box it performed poorly; screen was not very responsive, battery life was terrible despite all attempts (limited WIFI use, etc).

Less than expected...

Its great for mp3s and avi. Not as great with a wider range of older formats. The touch screen is a pain and the thing should come with a stylus.

Month Update

After almost a month of use I am still pleased with mine. After a little reading and some downloading I now have complete access to the droid market. I have yet to find an app that doesnt work. As far as use, its gets a lot. I have dropped it from my shirt pocket a few times and it has survived just fine. I know some complain about the camera. I guess I'm easily impressed. 2MP is good enough for what I want or need to do. It is light hungry tho. A front light would have made it better. My only complaint is that the touch screen is a little quirky at times. I use the eraser end of a pencil and I have no problems. From reading some of the comments here I guess I just got lucky with mine. As far as I am concerned I wouldn't be afraid to buy another Archos product in the future. In my situation I still give it a 2 thumbs up.

Spoiled potential

My device failed more than once. The first time I could revive it by recharging it but now it's just dead and I've been using it for only 3 weeks. The resistive touch screen isn't hals as bad as people say it is, but if you're used to other touch screen it might be problematic. The camera is completely useless. Picture that comes out is grainy. As far as video goes, I haven't been able to play more than one video. It's mainly a compatibility issue, but it doesn't seem that easy to fix either. Bummer. Picture quality though is amazing so is sound quality. I could stream long HD videos quite easily on that thing. Lastly, app wize, this device is really lacking. I haven't been able to download any of the major known apps for this thing because they were not available on the app store. It could have been a great device, but it's too flawed and apparently not that reliable. I'm waiting to see what Archos offers in terms of customer service.

Not evil, just hungry

I got this as a bday present. Very pleased with all it can and will do. I had an Iphone and was used to it and all it would do. Hands down this is an Apple eater. If you are interested in some type of itablet check out all that Archos has to offer. Every taste and budget is possible thru them. I am so pleased with mine that if I had only seen one of these I might have went ahead and purchased one myself. So far its done everything I have asked and went way beyond what I could asked for. I will give another update in a month or so. As of now, I would tell all my friends to ditch the icrap and look at Archos. They have done a great job in getting it to me in good shape and on time.
