Great starter system for general surveilance
This is a great starter system for general surveilance of the property. Unfortunately the quality of the cameras is no good for true surveilance if you are trying to pick up a face of someone. Face recognition would only be possible when they are within 5 feet or less of the camera, anything past that is just a blur and that is during a nice sunny day. The included cables being not shielded do receive interference if you have them running close to other power lines (such as computer cords, etc) or try to touch them at the connector end by accident when moving something. The DVR system itself has good features and allows you to install other cameras, allowing for better definitionif needed in some spots. Remote setup is easy with respect to the Q-See system. However, depending on your ISP and port blocking and cable modem or other routers you may run into problems, but that is not Q-See's fault.

Network setup doesn't work.
How many times should I follow the instructions and have it not work? I think the interface menu is from the 80s.

I didn't know what CIF meant!
The cameras are capable of 400 lines. But, the recorder can only record 2 channels at that quality. The other 6 cameras must record at CIF, a measly 240 lines. Also 240 lines is the default. You must change cameras 1 & 2 to D1 quality using the menu. Manual is well written. Menus usable but look 25 years old. Motion detection is great. Starts recording about a second after motion is detected. A 6 minute CIF recording is only 20MB. Unfortunately the video is saved as a .264 file. If you want to share a video clip, good luck. The provided software took a CIF 18MB file & completely degraded it into a 112MB.avi that looked like a low quality newspaper picture. After trying a dozen video programs, only a friends $800 program could read and properly edit the .264 file. Night vision worked well. Unless centered & within 2'. Then you get a white blob.

DO NOT BUY IT. REALLY BAD QUALITY. Save your $$$
It looked like a decent price and good product. IT IS NOT. Grass looks orange. It is not possible to recognize a face unless someone is really close. Forget reading license plate of a car. You will not even tell what kind of car it was. Very bad quality. Most of positive reviews must be from seller.

Very Good and easy setup
This is very good for the price and features. If you need sound, you just have to add extra mics or get an outdoor Night Vision Camera With Audio. You may also have to change the wires if you are going thru walls and ceilling.
