Great Replacement for Failed Laptop Sound Card

The sound card on my laptop failed. The manufacturer said they could replace the motherboard for several hundred dollars. Since I'm not made of money, this wasn't going to happen. I not only needed playback capability, I also needed duplexing capability. (What Creative Labs calls - What-U-Hear.) Many USB solutions did not have this option. This sound card has provided everything I need and then some. I've used it to play music (accompaniment tracks) for public performance and it has performed flawlessly. For the features it provides, the price was good, the features are good, and the sound quality is great. I would strongly recommend it.

Great Deal

This is an excellent sound card and comes with the added capability of being easily moved from machine to machine. Sure beats trying to physically install an equivalent card.

Has its problems.

I bought this because I wanted a usb sound device to take between my two comps that was better than onboard sound. Well, it sounds better overall but, it pops loudly when coming out of hibernate and when booting and shutting down. My onboard does not. Headphone usage is disappointing as the sound sometimes clips or stretches out sounds longer than they are supposed to be. I would not recommend this.

Horrible

It only worked once, and then stopped working totally. headphone jack was fine, but never could get sound out of it. No technical support at all, so going back to standard PCI card.

Kool-Beans!

My LAPTOP USB to Sound Blaster USB, optical-out to my Yamaha 5.1 Surround sound optical-in. Piece of cake to install. It was truly a no-brainerat a wicked-good price! Enjoying downloaded movies with full 5.1 sound now.

A nice product that works in OSX

An appropriate external sound card for OSX. Perhaps the only limitation is that the sound volume knob on the unit does not work in OSX, but this is a known issue. If you have an external amplifier or powered speaker, you can easily adjust the volume on that. A good value for the price.

pretty good

I bought this external sound card so that I could control the volume on my computer speakers via remote control. As such, it works great. The sound is also pretty great, definitely an improvement from my built-in soundcard. However, there are some flaws with this: 1. the headphone output is worthless to me because it just makes singing really quiet, and there is no way to adjust these settings only for headphones 2. the whole control panel software is kind of lame. It comes with a lot of pre-loaded crap to add effects to your sound, but doesn't give you more detailed control of, for example, something like the sensitivity of the volume control. That would have been much more helpful than adding three different layers of reverb to my sound.

Yes this external sound card is without doubt the best thing I have purchased in a long time. I just did not have any idea how to use my 5.1 surround sound system using my LAPTOP until I found this Sound Blaster x-FI Surround 5.1 Pro sound care-USB2. It was so easy to install and I can plug the 3 color cable from my main panel on the speaker right into to this external sound card. I THINK ANYONE WHO BUYS THIS PRODUCT CAN NOT GO WRONG.
