StarTech PATA2SATA3 Bi-Directional SATA/IDE Converter
The StarTech PATA2SATA3 Bi-Directional SATA/IDE Converter is a bi-directional SATA IDE adapter/converter that lets you connect a Serial ATA drive to a legacy IDE port, or an IDE drive to a SATA motherboard port.
The StarTech PATA2SATA3 Bi-Directional SATA/IDE Converter is a cost-effective solution for upgrading existing IDE systems to support SATA hard drives or optical drives, the SATA/IDE adapter eliminates the expense of having to purchase a controller card while saving the expansion slot that would be required for card installation.
In addition to SATA hard drive installation, the StarTech PATA2SATA3 Bi-Directional SATA/IDE Converter can be reversed in order to connect older IDE drives to a newer SATA-enabled motherboard, making it easy to retrieve old files from a previous system.
What It Is and Why You Need It

Works as I expected
This is a great compliment to the other tools you should have when upgrading old hard drives or mother boards. It transfers a lot fast than a USB to SATA interface. And it is in a decent case so you do not need to worry about it shorting out on the computer case.

didn't include power cord
hooked up easy ...got power to converter ...but there was no power cord from converter to drive

Not to impressed
Takes hours to copy a 1 GB file over to a drive with this converter attached. The system sometimes doesn't recognize the drive on account of the adapter.

Awesome!!
I had built my own pc and my previous pc had the older IDE harddrives. I had thousands of songs and family pics on my old hard drive. I used this to connect my old hard drive to my new Sata Mother board and just copied all of my files from my old drive to my new one. Very quick and very easy!
