IOGEAR's GUB231 Automatic Printer Switch allows two PCs and / or Macs to share one printer or multi-function printer. Simply submit a print job and the printer automatically* switches to the preferred computer. The IOGEAR GUB231 Automatic Printer Switch also enables two computers to easily share one external hard drive, scanner, or any USB device. The IOGEAR GUB231 Automatic Printer Switch means no more plugging and unplugging between computers.
What It Is And Why You Need It
- IOGEAR's USB 2.0 Automatic Printer Switch allows two PCs and / or Macs to share one printer or multi-function printer.
Note: Automatic switch function is software based and only available with USB printer or the printer function of a multi-function printer. For connecting and using other types of USB devices, you can switch by using the push-button on the USB switch or with the included software.

Works great as mech. switch
I didn't even try the software. I use it in manual mode and it works just the way it is supposed to. I've had it a couple of months. I don't know what could break on it; a good mechanical switch.

Excellent for the purpose
I am usually tech-challenged but....I needed a switch to enable me to print from either a Desktop or a laptop using the same printer (which could not be networked). This device is doing the job perfectly. I use the manual switch, didn't bother with the software.

Automatic function does not work
Not only does the automatic function not work but it broke the file: mup.sys in the windows system directory on a client's computer. After repair, client elected to use device in manual mode. NOT worth $30.00, maybe $10.00.

Works Well
It's operating in manual mode with no complaints. The switch is connected to a Windows laptop and a MacBook and works flawlessly in manual mode. Didn't bother with the software.

Plug and Play
I just plugged in the printer and both PCs it recognized it right away. We do not need the software auto-switch so we are manually switching when we need to. And it works flawlessly
