a little problem

I HAVE TROUBLE KEEPING THIS ON LINE. IT KEEPS GOING OFF LINE A LOT AND I NEVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY TOSHIBA WITH THE SAME NET GEAR EQUIPMENT

nice performance with exceptions

I was excited by this deal, but finding some problems. First, it's heavier than the stated weight of 5.14 lbs. I was suspicious when it felt noticeably heavier than my old laptop so I weighed it - 6.1 lbs. Doesn't sound that bad but it makes a difference. One of the number keys sticks so I have to either POUND it hard or use the 10 key. Easy to forget that when in the middle of typing. Doesn't allow security features to be enabled - fingerprint sensor, etc. Touchpad is very annoying!!! Often works fine, but then stops wanting to move so I have to swipe many times to get it to go anywhere. Major bummer. I've only had this machine for a week and it was fine for about days. (Oops, that was supposed to say 4 days, but I forgot the 4 key doesn't work so I kept typing. Problematic.) It seems to be a quality machine, and it is much faster than my previous one, but I'm just wondering what other problems I'm going to find.

Love the computer

I bought this HP because of the performance of my work computer. This one is even better! I love the features and responsiveness. I definitely recommend this the ProBook.

Decent laptop, met my needs, good price

Product was easy to set up and get ready for use. The laptop itself works very well, however the touchpad is very sluggish and stalls frequently. I wasn't able to find a means of adjusting its sensitivity, so I guess we'll have to learn to tolerate it.

Solid laptop for price

This is a very solid laptop for the price. Only disappointment was the video card and the options available for screen resolution. It is somewhat limited. However, if using a 2nd monitor most of the time no big deal.

Excellent Workhorse of a Machine

Super quick, durable, with a vivid display. The only thing I would like is a backlit keyboard - but for a third generation i5 CPU and 8 GIG of RAM, with both Windows 7 and 8 you cannot beat it. Oh, some people state that the AMD Radeon Graphics chip is not in the computer. It is - check your Device Manager and you will see it. It is just that HP has its own front end graphics controller tool (software)and that is what the system info reports. This computer is money well spent.

Decent Laptop

The HP ProBook 4540s C9K41UT Notebook PC, is a decent laptop. The base of the unit does not get hot during casual use, like other laptops. The keyboard is difficult to see under low light conditions, it is not backlit. The DVDRW drive is difficult to open by just pushing the button, needs to be pressed by a nail to get it to open. Using CheckIt Diagnostic software, it reports that the Graphics Adapter is an Intel HD Graphics 4000, not the AMD Radeon specified. The Windows Explorer icon pinned to the taskbar doesn't work; reports that there is no program associated with it. The front cover is stainless steel without anything to hold your grip; purchased grip-it strips to apply to cover,to have a better grip. Other than all that, the laptop works, writing this review from the laptop. One redeeming value is that it is delivered with Windows 7 Professional installed, along with Microsoft Office 2010, which can be activated with a key card code that needs to be purchased.

Looked great on paper

Not a well refined laptop. Major intermittent hardware and software issues. Looking for a new one after only three months. Purchase at your own risk.

Great Laptop, Wrong Graphics Card in Specs

The laptop has been working great over all, it came with windows 7 installed which I really loved over the less freedom windows 8 gives you. The windows 8 disc does come as well in case you'd prefer it cause of the new features, which arent bad, but im more of a windows 7 guy. The only thing that disappointed me was that in Specifications it has AMD Radeon HD 7650M as the graphics card but it is actually an Intel HD Graphics 4000. Other than that, it seems great. Awesome Speakers!

Great Unit

Got this for my son to use at college. I wanted him to have a good unit to handle any software and graphics. This one does it well. Switchable graphics are great, good RAM, and 3rd Gen i5. He did not want to go Win 8 and this one is loaded with 7 and has the upgrade disc so HE can choose to switch. If it becomes available again... BUY IT!
