Great Addition
I am quite pleased with my portable writer that I purchased for my Winows 8 laptop. Once you do what is needed for your Windows 8 product to play CD's, DVD,s and Blu-Rays, you have no problems with the writer and it has abeautiful picture playback

Great products, no complaints
I was looking for an external blue ray drive and managed to find this burner for cheaper than most drives that are just readers, happy with the product

Does the job for me.
I have a fairly new laptop that could already play Blu-ray disks, but did not come with Blu-ray writing ability. I also already had Blu-ray writing software that came with an HD camcorder that I have. This Samsung Blu-ray writer plugged right in to the USB port and wrote my Blu-ray videos with no problem. I've already burned about a dozen videos now and it runs smoothly every time. If it is a little slow I haven't noticed. But for this price I can be patient.

So far a good player - poor burner
I have a limited system too, but I have not had problems playing Blu Ray movies. Though I did have to download DVDFAB Passkey to get some to work. (Zero Dark Thirty, for example.) But burning is a major problem. I'm getting an average write speed of 0.3!

Does not play on older systems
Will not play Blu-ray discs on a PC with win 7 ultimate core2duo 3.0GHz and 4 GB RAM.
