This has been your basic plug-and-swear-for-hours installation. D-Link's tech services call center worked diligently with me to try to resolve the problem, but bottom line is that the thing should not have taken the FOUR HOURS out of my life that it did in order to get me a working, secured wireless connection to my laptop. The supplied software seamlessly takes the installer to being addicted to a for-pay-trial-version of a network setup/maint app (''Network Magic''), which should absolutely have been freeware if it was at all needed to set up in less than my FOUR hours! I loathe the notion of buying a product only to learn that I am being coerced into buying something else to make it work...which, come to think of it, is typical of PC software and why I have a serious love-hate relationship going on with my friggin' Dell.

I bought this router in Aug.'06. The rebate was too good to pass up. I should have passed it up. I spent hours on the phone with support until I was finally given an RMA # to return this defective router. I was hoarse from yelling on the phone because I couldn't be heard and they sounded like they were under water. I received the replacement. I can't decide if its worth the trouble to open the box.

I give this 3 stars because of my mixed experiences. Firmware upgrades to this product are frequent. Some may add features but also create problems such as spontaneous rebooting. If you are lucky to find a firmware version that works, it can be fairly stable. If you are unlucky with firmware, get ready for endless headaches. Out of 4 units I have purchased, one just stopped working.

I have used this router for about 5 months now, and it still works just fine. It's on the top floor of my place, and still gets excellent signal strength 3 walls, 2 floors and 30 feet away. You need to make sure that the ant is NOT pointed at the adapters, as it emits the signals from the sides of the ant, not the top/bottom. As far as dropping connection, check your log. Have the log set to record dropped packets. If you have a lot of dropped packets, it's because of the default firewall settings on the router, it HATES P2P programs, and most uploads for that matter. Tell the router firewall to allow all connections, make sure your PC has a good firewall, and you won't have any problems

So far this has been a great product for the price. I use DSL and my D/L speeds have not been affected any where in the house.

There is nothing wrong with my DI-624 firmware v5.0 It takes some time to set it up correctly, and then it's fine. If I want to I can MAKE the router disconnect itself all the time by selecting the ''always on'' option. The correct setting for an always on connection is ''available on demand'' then there are no problems with connection timeouts. Even if I did have a few problems, I wouldn't complain anyways because I only paid $5 for it after rebate.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is just a little difficult navigate while configuring. However, once you understand how to navigate the unit, it is an excellent device, and a joy to use. Includes the best WPA security available, firewall, great filtering support. An excellent deal for the after-rebate price of roughly $35. I can sit two houses up from mine, in my car and access it. That's kinda cool.

My first experience with wireless product was instaling a Linksys router couple of weeks ago with time spent more than 3 hrs with Linksys and my DSL provider's technical support without sucess. Ultimately I decided to return the product and bought the D Link router which took me less than 15min to install and boy it was functioning smooth without any interuptions. Besides it has much more features than the more expensive Linksys router. I am very happy that I purchased this product.
