I have spent a lot more time and money on server and backup solutions over the years and got a lot less. For a system, file, multimedia and backup server in a box I don't think you can go wrong. Only two beefs, one is the Windows documentation which as always is available online but answers are not easy to find or complete at any one site. You can spend hours reading to get a simple answer. The second is cost, if you add up the components and software you can make your own for around 225.00 to 250.00. It cost effective for businesses as they pay labor by the hour, but for a home user if cost is a primary concern, you can do it for less. |

Let me say that this is really a neat little box, and excellent for a home NAS or media hub. The real shame is to what lengths Acer went to lock you in to Windows Home Server (lack of video port, even though there is a vid port on the motherboard, by default will not boot from a USB drive if inserted, need to jumper the debug header to preserve BIOS changes, etc.).
I installed a cheap PCIe X1 video card and 4 1TB HDD's. Then I built a soft RAID5 array for data, loaded a couple of open source media streaming apps, and it's working very nice. |

I've been using this server for about three months, primarily for storage of our video and photo files for a home network. It works with a Vista laptop, 3 XP computers, and a Popcornhour media box. The value on this package is good as the box has 4 hard drive bays, includes a 1TB hard drive, and a copy of Windows Home Server. I've also been able to set it up as a print server and an NFS server. Hardware configuration seems adequate to do the job and results in low power usage. I'm measuring 48watts at the outlet with 4 hard drives and it is reasonably quiet with one 120mm fan that spins around 750rpm. Only complaint would be with the Home Server OS which at times behaves mysteriously with respect to setting up the client computer accounts. |

This is my first attempt to use a home server. Everything installed and worked from the start. The server seems to be well made and I was surprised at how heavy it is for it's size. Right now I have 4 1TB drives that are about half full with data from my external drives that I have sitting around. The auto download and sorting of files works fine. You only need to push one button to copy everything from the external drive.
I've set it up for internet access and can see it fine from my remote location (work). I tried uploading a very large file but it didn't appear to work. I think I only need to do some more reading to figure out how to do it. But I think the problem is with the server at work being overloaded. I can download over the internet so the hardware is working. Like I started with, this is my first attempt using a server that I have to set up. |

The h340 has outlived my expectations. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and I'm loving this thing. My only complaint is Ac ers tech support. I had an issue setting it up and I called their tech support where they basically told me in order to get help I had to call their Pay-for tech support line. I ended up telling the guy where he could stick his pay-for number and finding my own answers.
IMPORTANT: If you are having issues getting your computer to connect during the initial setup (or thereafter) either disconnect your internet connection from the router, or edit your hosts file to point |
