Biostar TA790GX A3+ Motherboard
AMD's HD video solution presents a new era of HD content and HD-related products which will be a key factor of a new lifestyle. This AMD desktop solution can provide a full HD experience with support for the latest and most demanding formats, including VC-1, MPEG-2 and H.264 on a mainstream PC. It lets consumers enjoy a smooth HD viewing experience - less lag, stalling and dropped scenes - in the latest Blu-ray titles. It supports the latest AMD Phenom II X4 & X3 processors, including AMD 140W processor support with the AMD 790GX Chipset with ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics. The 128MB DDR2 Side-Port memory helps to speed up graphics even further for an incredibly realistic experience. Sideport memory is similar to onboard graphics memory buffer. When enabled, it can increase 3D performance by another 10% or more. It also supports dual-channel DDR3 -1333/1066/800 memory. The ATI with Hybrid Graphics support provide superior scaling with ATI CrossFireX technology, while the integrated HDMI/DVI interface with HDCP supports a full 1080P HD video experience. Go ahead and check out the rest of the specs and all the cool features that Biostar has included on this sweet board. You can't afford to miss this chance.

the stand-offs and board mounting screws need to be matched as there are two different thread sizes
Northbridge fan connector difficult to reach if video card is in top slot, but hey, it really works great if you take your time and put everything together right

Bought this intending to use the onboard video connectins on dual analog monitors. Although it has a DVI I type connector indicating digital, and analog w adapter could be used this is ac tually only DVI D digital only. The other feature I wanted is ability to hot swap Sata devices. To do so you MUST set bios to HMCI and load the F6 drivers on install. Still didn't work properly until I updated those drives to the most current 10-2009 version. I also needed to use a small utility call HotSwap to allow writing cached data to a sata drive I wanted to remove similar to a USB device removal. Works great though after many undesireable installs trying to get it right. Also be sure to disable ide-sata in the cmos or it still won't work correctly. Many Nvidia boards make this soooo much easier. But a very good board once set up properly.

probably the best value board i have gotten. shopped around for a while, had the features i was looking for. my only issue was audio for 64 bit, download fixable. bios is pretty user friendly(always download & read manuals before purchase or install). both bios and OS auto clock are intuitive(OS put my 2.6 to 3.04 with only clock adds). bios update is great. this is NOT a micro board, be sure your case can hold it(and need a very long system fan power cord)

Haven't really had a chance to test the motherboard completely. Noticed when i did get everything hooked up with my dual 4890s the NB was hitting temperatures of 64c idle! Changed the fans around as well as put water cooling on it and was only able to lower it to 58c. Ended up causing random reboots without BSOD. Couldn't solve the issue. Maybe just a bad board. Not great for high spec graphics cards from what I can tell.
Before you buy - make sure your motherboard is compatible with this memory. For example, DDR Memory won't work with motherboards designed for only DDR2, SDRAM or RDRAM memory, and vice versa. Only use the memory speed recommended by your motherboard's manufacturer. Please read the specifications carefully or call us for expert advice.
Understanding
Computer Memory
Because memory is such a crucial element of our computer's performance,
we all understand that we need it in generous supply. However, questions
remain about what kind of memory is best, what functions each memory serves
and which memory is used for notebooks and PCs.

that will answer your many of your questions.
How Much
Memory Do You Really Have?
When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the
installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed.
However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable
memory depending upon the installed operating system, and other factors. The actual useable memory may be different
(lower) from these values.
The reason is simply that a computer may have a limitation in the operating
system (such as Windows 32 bit versions), or configured to use shared memory,
which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using
some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some
cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings,
by upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 bit version of Windows XP or Vista, or by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory.
But always
remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always
the amount of actual installed memory. For example, if you have 4GB
installed, 32 bit versions of Windows will typically report 3.2GB due to a
limitation of Windows itself. Also note that different Windows
programs report available and maximum memory differently, which can be
confusing. If you find that you need more
memory, we suggest expanding your system memory, since this is the most
effective performance increase, and the one that is easiest to perform .
* The above
values are for physical, not usable memory.
