Iomega Home Media Network

Easy to setup and configure, for the file server part. DLNA server works fine as well. However ... I did not buy it specifically for this, but later on I thought the print server feature would be handy for the printer I had (its parallel print server had just died). I could never get the print server feature working, and by browsing through the forums on their web site, I found out the print server is just a hit or miss (some printers work with this, others don't, and they are unable to provide a compatibility list). Besides, connecting an external drive to the USB port only works for FAT32 formatted drives (no NTFS ?!?) I read about this then tried myself, unfortunately it is true. Just details to be aware of.

Excellent product and deal

This drive was the easiest to install for use with WinXP, Vista, and Windows 7. It is easy the easiest to access and use of several drives I have. I can't say enough good things about this product.

Great Product and easy set up!

The product & software was easily installed and set up on my network. So far it has not let me down or frozen any other programs as some users suggest. I use this with a Win 7 laptop and mostly for my photography. Image transfer rates could be faster but that is also network related (files are rather large and often in raw formats so I push 8gig+ at a time) and not to be blamed on the drive itself.

Setup issues can spoil otherwise good product

I originally started writing a review of this product while it was sitting dead on my desk, unreachable by any software. Fortunately, a hardware reset, which took some time to find out how to do, brought it back to life. It has worked pretty much flawlessly since then, within its limitations - it only works for DLNA if you have Mpeg 4 files, and then different clients refuse to see the files if they use the wrong file extension, there is no transcoding done, etc. As a SMB networking server, for those players that support SMB networking, it works great. The software that comes with it... well, a web browser is really all that is needed to manage this server, so ignore the included software. If you decide to install it, though, make sure you have ALL your work saved before installing it, because it WILL reboot your machine during the install, and it will NOT ask your permission to do so.
