Almost Perfect

I did my research and decided on the MSI since they are the people that the ACERs of the world have been putting MSI parts in their machines for years.I am hoping for long lasting oem hardware which is the expensive repair on a traditional laptop. THE GOOD: most all of the features are satisfactory or better. Battery Life is good and the ease of adjusting features with the Fn keys is a plus. The larger alfa/number keys are easy to use. Tech Support - On hold two minutes - Support guy was knowledgable - got the fix and off the phone in 5 minutes - very good. THE SO-SO:the owners manual is not that hot. I had to call Tech because I could not determine how to test that the camera was working. The on board camera is listed as a USB camera drive in My Computer - go figure. THE BAD - the touch pad is too sensitive and often makes typing difficult - if my thumb touches the pad. I found no way to adjust this. THE WISH - I can accept the no-Cd drive, but would love to have a pcmcia slot

This system turns heads!

I am so proud of my new MSI Wind U120-024US (Black & Whie 2-toned color) model! I have seen some complaints of a loud fan. Not on my unit. It sounds normal and when I use headphones for music and movies, the fan is unnoticeable. Some said it lacked a user-manual. Well, I'm all for saving trees and the manual icon and I hope a lot of us are. The walk-through on the 1st system boot up was easy & straigtforward. Then the User Manual had an icon was right on the desktop. However, I found the cam turn-on & set up confusing. But when I clicked the "help" button, the site it launched me to was helpful on the first try. The keyboard is comfortable, and everything works great as expected. The faults I find on this system are common among most netbooks. Namely: the right and left mouse click buttons require a lot of pressure and don't always respond right. That's why I usually use a portable mouse. Perfect System otherwise!

Magnificent netbook, needs better mouse buttons

I love this netbook. It is so practical and I have not been able to find any downsides. I have been able to download any application I need from the internet and so the CD/DVD drive is not needed. I really love the size and it is shiny and nice. I have been able to watch tv shows online, install itunes,skype and many other apps. I love the web camera and how it lets me log in. Couple things, though. The mouse buttons seem a bit low quality and I'm afraid they will break soon. The period and / buttons are half size so I'm often hitting the wrong buttons. I wish they would sell additional AC adapters so I can have one at work and one at home. All in all, I think this netbook is really great and really worth the price I paid. The $1.99 shipping sold me. Now I'm saving money to get one for my daughter.

Good Ubuntu Remix PC

I'm running Ubuntu Remix 9.04 on this (dual boot with Windows). Works great! - Did find the keyboard layout annoying (with the Fn key where the Ctrl key should go) -- this was fixed with a BIOS hack I found online to swap the two keys. - Forgot to setup swap space at first, so hibernate was broken (doh), now that works great too. (Set this up when you install or you'll have to hack your grub settings by hand...) - Camera even worked great (in cheese or Skype). - Sound was very soft, but with headphones it sounds just fine. - Battery with Ubuntu is also excellent (Linux of late has been very good). - Remix provided a great interface for the small screen, and with Opera/firefox/flash installed normal browsing is no problem. Great investment for travel and size.

Best investment I have made in a while! Gets around 5 hours of battery life regularly, webcam is smooth and clear, great screen picture, stable OS (it's XP...not Vista). Plan to buy an optical drive and head phones though since those are the only 2 things that will cause problems. Any headphones will do, sound is crystal clear.
