Does the memory card itself limit speed?
In a prior review, I wrote about getting only USB 2 speeds out of this supposedly USB 3 device. What is not clear to me is whether the memory card itself is acting as a USB 2 device. It is a type ''10'' card, with x133 speed; I would not expect the card to be a limiting factor, but maybe there's a protocol issue.

I have a motherboard with USB 3.0 so wanted a card reader that was 3.0 compatible also, to copy pixs from my Rebel T3i 600D to my pc quickly. This thing can transfer gigs of pixs from my SDHC card to my pc in seconds, which is great. I also like that it has the usb cable separate. My last card reader had it made in and after so many times of folding the cable around the reader to keep it in my camera bag, it ended up basically breaking off, so it's nice that this one can be unhooked from the reader then folded independently. The reader itself seems to be pretty solidly built and I've had no problems with my pc or any others that I've connected it to, recognizing the device when plugged in, even when plugged into the usb 2.0 port on my work pc.

(August 2011) Don't buy this just yet.
USB 3.0 is way too new as of today, so I wouldn't recommend buying it. First off, you need a USB 3.0 slot. Which I do have. Then you need a USB 3.0 device. For SD cards, they are few and far apart. Wait until USB 3.0 settles in and becomes standard, don't be an early bird or else you'll just be using it like a USB 2.0 for a long time. Also, the slots are so weird for this thing... You have to put the card in UPSIDE DOWN in order for it to fit. I actually had to put a label on it in case anyone else uses it or I forget.
