I'm not sure how anybody could complain about this product. The price is excellent, it takes decent movies and still pictures. And importing to my computer is reasonably easy -- there's lots of software available to convert these types of video files to mp3 or avi or whatever. After that, editing is no problem.
I don't get why people complain about the limited editing functions this camera has. It is true, but I could not see spending 3 or 4 hours fidding with buttons and that little joy stick to edit some video... the computer interface is sooooooo much more user friendly. And that goes for any video camera I've ever used.

Great little CamcorderI used Compusa DVD-R Double sided and Maxwell DVD-RW. The RW I put directly into my Panasonic DMR ES10 DVD recorder after filming and not finalizing the disc and it read it fine. I also put it directly into my computer and it played using Power DVD program (A free program that came with my $24 LG DVD Writer) . I also used it with Roxio Creator 9 (not 2009) to edit the video no problems. The manual for the camcorder is poorly written had to figure some things out on my own but the camcorder has many features for the price . Indoors it is grainy in low light but that is to be expexcted on a low budget camcorder outdoors is nice. Takes pretty good still photos too. Need a cheap camcorder this is the one.

I had a similar issue because I was trying with DVD+RW discs. I found below Solution at canon website:
DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW are similar but generally non-interchangable formats. Canon DVD camcorders only use DVD-R/RW discs.
DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW are similar but generally non-interchangable formats. Canon DVD camcorders only use DVD-R/RW* or DVD-R DL discs (DC10, DC20, DC100, and DC40 are not compatible with DVD-R DL discs).
If a DVD+R/RW disc is loaded into a Canon DVD camcorder the camcorder will display a ''DISC ERROR'' message after it attempts to read the disc.
*DVD-R Double sided discs may also be used however each side will need to be initialized before use.

Not impressed. Bought this in combination with some Memorex mini DVD-RW, but it won't read or recognize them. The manual says that some discs won't work with the camcorder, but of course there is nothing on the site about that. Then, being refurbished, I can't return it and have to hope Canon will help.
