SmartErase
“Quick Erase” only erases the information stored in the Lead-in area and data stored on the first track of the disc. As a result, a drive can not read the disc anymore, but with data recovery software there is a chance that some data can still be recovered from the parts of the disc that have not been overwritten.
“Full Erase” overwrites the complete disc. It takes more time then a “Quick Erase”, but all the data will be permanently erased.

I was really excited to have and use the LiteScribe function. First the software that was included for the DVD function apparently wasn't sold in the US, so I had to buy separate software to make the DVD work. Then the LiteScribe function didn't work. After spending many days trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong and using every brand of LiteScribe discs sold, I sent it to Lite-ON. After being without my DVD drive for a few weeks, they sent me a brand new drive. It also didn't work. The only saving grace has been I can play my DVDs and and game discs. Time will only tell if I can burn discs or not, as I have not tried to use that feature yet. DO NOT BUY. I have given up on this. At least the customer service was OK at Lite-ON |

Just dont like it, its buggy and sticks searching sometime. Good for viewing and installing programs is all. The write functions are slow imo, and it seems it always wants to format the disk or this may be vista, not sure I am new vista user. |

Works great, nice price. Fast drive with no glitches. Nero is nero, it gets the job done, but what do you expect for free bundled software. Very nice burner, I've been a Liteon fan for years. |
