What is NComputing X550?
The X550 is a new way to expand your existing computer by simply adding a PCI card and
connecting our multi-user terminal boxes. Each PCI card has five (5) RJ45 output ports and five (5)
terminal boxes so you can easily connect more users via CAT 5e or CAT 6 STP cables. A limit of two (2) PCI cards may
be used with each computer thus, extending 1 PC to 11 users!
How does it work?
Today’s computers are so fast and powerful it’s like having a super computer that’s being under utilized.
The NComputing X550 and our Terminal Server software take advantage of the excess computing power and
redistributing it to each computer terminal. Everyone connected receives the same speed and
performance of the Host PC, plus each user works independently and securely from each other.

I bought the L230 devices like this X550. The L230 are network only devices, and can be put anywhere, but do not have screensaver mode. I bought the X550 for licensing costs like Office 2007 shared for 5 user screens, anti-virus, etc. That is huge in a small school on a tight budget.
I also bought this product because it has screen saver technology, meaning, it will put the card into screen saver to avoid burn-in on the monitor. The downside is that it keeps the monitor active rather than letting the monitor power-save properly. Lastly, it is a PCI card. With newer computers, this becomes an issue with PCI Expresss x1 and x16, with almost no PCI open slots, if any. Good Value and Good Performance, just some minor issues with it to-date.

I saw this first in the SkyMall magazine and thought, ''this can't work as advertised.'' I was wrong! Our staff discussed it, and we purchased 2 sets for our school computer lab. Works wonderfuly! Just wish the price was a little lower, but still worth the $399 |
