DIYer review is inaccurate
Yes, according to the instructions, you need a stud to mount. But the mounting plate has several options to which you can screw the bolts so centering it up on any wall isn't a problem. I installed mine in less than 20 minutes and have it centered even though the nearest stud is roughly 7 inches off center. Great product, will purchase another for the living room.

Need a centered stud
This mount only works if you have a stud in the wall centered exactly where you want the tv to go. We didn't, so we had to return it. Make sure you know where you will mount the tv and what studs are available to do so before ordering this (or any!) mount.

great product great price
i have put off buying one of these because everyone ive seen has been priced way out there. this product was simple easy to install and lo and behold even came with the lag bolts!!!!!!!! a great product for a great price.
