Customer Reviews
This is a monster
This drive is a beast. Yes it costs more then a 1TB caviar black but it is well worth it. For years I have been using U320 SCSI 15K drives and thought I would take the plunge and try this. Well worth the cost and a ton cheaper then SCSI. If you are after speed then this is your drive. Sure SSD is faster but with all the problems why risk it.
Not as fast as you might think
3 years ago I got 2 of these set up as a RAID 0 array. One failed after about a year and I replaced both. They are running fine. The one thing that really stunned me was when I temporarily used a 1000 gig, 7200 rpm WD drive and there was virtually NO difference in speed. I had Win 7 on both setups. I have 8 gigs of RAM and a Quad core CPU in a water cooled Blackbird. So 10K speed even with RAID 0 is no faster. Go figure. They look cool when you take 'em out though.
great dirve
I purchase the raptor as a secondary drive to run photoshop type programs off of. It is fast.
Quiet, Quality, Performance
Raptors, since the first generation have had unsurpassed quality and reliability for us. Running 8 in a RAID 5, 1 HS. Even piled up inside a 1U chassis they stay icy cool. Also running serveral RAID 10 arrays with 4 drives a piece... stable and fast! Purchase these not only for the speed, but for their lifespan and warranty - it's worth the premium price!
Fast, but could cost less.
I prefer performance over storage, but 200$ for a 300 gig hard drive when there's a 2TB for 100$, less there isn't much incentive. I'm satisfied with my purchase nun-the-less, no regrets.
