Very disappointing

The hardware appears to be good quality and is well designed. B the WINTV software is mediocre a best, and frequently seems to loose sync (picture looks like it's been scrambled). But worst, it simply just won't work with Windows Media Center 7. One thing is the remote control is not certified, I don't like it anyway and have a different remote and IR receiver. But it unfortunately it won't install properly since the IR blaster is not recognized either. Hauppauge's own instructions are useless for troubleshooting. They only mention how to install, but includes no media center troubleshooting at all - it is obvious that this was not designed with MCE in mind. So if you intend to use this product with Microsoft Media center, one word sums it up: AVOID!

Good Device

I bought this item 2 years ago. It runs well with Windows7 64 bit and now with Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Does record Videos and movies. I use DirecTV movie channels. Recommend getting the Beyond TV from Spectrum. They have good software for scheduling your programs and movies for recording. They also have a remote that works even better than the Hauppauge device. Have not used the FM tuner radio in my location is has bad signal quality.

After 18 months it died

I bought this in June 2009. Used it a bit to copy some VHS tapes. It has been idle for about 6 months. Went to use it yesterday and it is stone cold dead.

Good hardware but VERY POOR Software!!

I've had to uninstall and re-install several times to make it work and also had to reboot NUMEROUS times for the software to detect the tuner. Stay away from this product until they can make the software actually work.

Awful

I had problems with the install CD and Windows Vista. After 4 attempts, it finally installed. I could not get the remote control to work at all, even with brand new batteries. The picture would become wavy and unwatchable. I would have to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it to get the picture back. This company replaced my first unit, but I had the same problems with the replacement.

March 3, 2009: I wanted an HDTV tuner for my laptop. This one had the right features, Hauppage is a reliable brand, and this company had a reasonable price. I do not like the software that comes with these - Beyond TV has a better interface and a smoother setup - just seems to be a better designed package. One trick - to get the IR blaster setup software to work with a different TV application software package, it seems you must install the entire WinTV application (not just the IR drivers and IR Config program as I was hoping - shame on the team that did the software!) After I figured that out, everything was fine. I only briefly tried out the ATSC tuner; it performed quite well; as did the FM tuner. Usually, I feed in a cable box signal and let the IR Blaster control that box. This works very well with the remote also. Other than the IR Blaster ''gotcha''; no problems. I strongly recommend this product if you're in the market for one. Updated March 10, 2010: I still like this tuner

Finally gave up those video cassettes....

...I guess that it was my main goal. It works generally well (Windows Media Center with its online TV Guide is a bliss) although I have to restart the remote driver occasionally. My main gripe features-wise is that I can't use it in parallel analog and digital signals without a major reconfiguration.

Great product

The Hauppauge WinTv-HVR1950 USB Tuner is a very good product that does what it is supposed to do and the software completes the package with all you need to get up and running.

Can't get both inputs working on WMC Vista 64 bit

I picked this up because I wanted a reliable unit for my HTPC system. It looks to be made well enough. I tried for around 3 hours to get it to pick up the S-Video from my Sat box AND my OTA HD channels. It will do one or the other, but not both. So, it's either an expensive adapter for your cable box or an expensive tuner. I'd pass and buy something else. This went back.
