Lite-On DH-401S-08 Blu-Ray(Read Only) Internal Drive
Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS) announces the introduction of the world’s first BD-ROM drive in the market. The Lite-On DH-4O1S is a read-only device for all popular media formats, including Blu-ray discs. Besides Blu-ray discs, the drive can read DVD+/-R(W) and CD-R(W) media.
The retail pack includes an extra silver bezel and a SATA cable to connect the drive to the motherboard of the PC. It also includes a Cyberlink Blu-ray software package for playback Blu-ray media in high definition.
“With this BD-ROM drive we make the Blu-ray format available to a wider audience then ever before,” says Jelmer Veldman, marketing manager for PLDS in Europe. “Because it is a read-only device, we are able to reduce the price to a level that it becomes more interesting to make that step to the next generation format. People can now enjoy high definition playback on their PC. And instead of spending hundreds of euros on a stand-alone Blu-ray player, one can use an HDMI cable to connect his/her PC with a TV-set and enjoy high definition using their BD-ROM drive as their Blu-ray playback device.”
The DH-4O1S has a Serial ATA interface and reads BD-R/RE/ROM/SL/DL media at a maximum of 4X. Single Layer DVD ±R can be read at 12X, while Double Layer DVD±R and Single Layer DVD-±RW can be read at 8X. CD-R(W) can be read at a maximum speed of 32X.

Works Great
Have had it for 6 mos now and have had no problems. When out and bought a blue ray movie right away to test it out and was surprised how clear the picture was, playing on a Vizio 32" 1080P TV/Monitor. Didn't expect this good of a player for the price I paid. Had no problem with up dating unit, with the way movie companies are constantly changing specs on Blue Ray movies it is hard to keep up with the latest technology, don't blame Lite-on. LLW

Basic and effective Blu-Ray Drive
This drive works good, but you'll want to make sure you have an internet connection active whenever you use this drive. Internet survice is required for some stupid stuff the movie studios/owners put on each Blu-Ray movie. The software (Power DVD Blu-Ray ed.) bundled with the drive is only functional, no frills (i.e.only 2 channel audio supported). For the modders: The status light is a lighter blue, not a deep cobalt blue. It has worked with all the movies I've put in it since I found out about the internet connection requirement.

Installed this and a 9600 GSO and it worked perfectly the first time. The supplied software updated upon initial setup and worked great with the new releases I had just rented. The only issue is that the way that it opens. I have a Dell 9100 series case and I had to modify the trim quite a bit for it to open.

Firmware has nothing to do with it playing newer movies. I bought mine a year ago now and it plays Wall-E just fine. You have to keep your PowerDVD updated is the key.

The problem with this drive is irregular firmware updates. Newer BluRay films such as Nim's Island will not play even with the latest firmware (CP56 as of this writing). I now have a good deal of money invested in a Home Theater PC and I find myself constantly seeking updates, patches and fixes.
