Works as advertised

I have an old tube HD television (not flat screen but it will do 1080p). As such, I can't state how well it will perform with video on a good television. No one else here has complained about the video so I'm sure it's good. I have optical audio out from my pc to the device, and it combines with the video signal. I don't need another optical cable to carry the audio, unlike a couple of other reviewers. I had trouble configuring the optical audio signal in XBMC but that was a software issue. Once I got that straightened out, the HDMI audio worked fine. The case could use some rubber feet but it seems pretty solid to me. The device is rather small, so you can probably hide it somewhere. The power supply plug sticks out when inserted into the device. This is mildly annoying but probably harmless. Some electrical tape would take care of that. :)

Good Deal but doesn't work as advertised!

- Encodes digital audio onto the video signal for HDMI video and audio - I wasn't able to get this aspect of the box to work, I still had to run a separate cable for the audio.

Works Perfectly Right Out of the Box!

If you have been frustrated trying to get your computer to send a 1080p signal over HDMI with audio to your HD television, your frustration is over! Although the unit's output is native 1080i, it is easy to switch over to 1080p in the nVidia control panel under Windows 7. I assume that ATI video card users have the same easy configuration change. Another plus is that you can also send a digital audio output from the unit to your AV receiver at the same time! The unit is well made and the installation instructions are illustrated with photos and clear, non-technical step by step instructions. HDCP is fully supported, so no worries watching Blu-ray movies from your computer to your HD television. Highly recommended!

Doesn't Work As Advertised...

I had high hopes for this product. I have a Mac Pro that I wanted to connect to HDTV so I could surf the Web and watch youtube videos on my TV (as a second monitor). Problem was my Mac Pro doesn't have an HDMI out port. It only has a DVI output and optical audio. I need something to combine the video signal via DVI and the audio signal from optical audio output into a HDMI (which can carry both audio and video). However, this converter didn't work that way. It has both an optical audio input AND output -- apparently I have to run an optical audio wire to the HDTV to also get sound (the HDMI cable alone doesn't carry the audio signal). Big bummer for me as now I have run an extra long optical audio wire to the TV (the HDMI cable was previously buried in the walls...).

Did the job

I had a similar unit from CE-Link which didn't do the job because after powering my computer down at night, I couldn't set the display resolution back up to 1080p. It would always revert back to less, and in my display resolution setup box on my computer wouldn't even show the 1080p resolution being available. This unit installed easily and I haven't had any performance problems. It is driving a HDMI cable over 30' long, and I am using both the coax and optical audio inputs.
