Bundled software is unusably bad

The bundled software is awful. Don't even try it. Use Windows Movie Maker instead. The connectors on the cable are the wrong gender for my camcorder (Sony Handicam). You'll need a male-to-male adapter to use either the composite or S-Video inputs. Also, my cable seems to have stopped working after digitizing just two video tapes totaling 3 hours. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on two different computers (XP and Windows 7) and I just can't seem to make it work again. Too bad, because with Windows Movie Maker, it was a cinch for the first two.

Good for conversion but useless for burning CDs

The provided hardware dongle nicely does the job and the software provided converts VHS tapes to MS .wmv files. I was unable to burn regular DVDs that require .vob files (that played just under 2 hours) with the provided ULEAD software. I would rate the software 1 out of 5. I had to use another program the burn CDs.

Not to Happy with it

Bought this item to save some old vhs movies to dvd. Fast delivery but followed instructions to letter and just cant get it to work right. Even downloaded drivers from website and no go? Maybe the fact that I'm using Win 8 has something to do with it but it's suppose to be compatible with Win 7. All can get it to do is to record in avi format and when I try to change to it's other formats it stops working. Going to give it a few more try's and if it still does not want to work correctly then it's going to the trash. For it's value it's cheaper just to buy something else then to go through the hassle of trying to exchange it. Not to happy with this purchase.

Useless and not worth the trouble

I wanted to use the S-video component, but, I get unsupported function error every time. When I try to use another capture program with this unit, it will not load the driver. Useless product.

No mac info when buying (windows only)

Not specified that it was windows only. Tried loading even on windows and it wanted to remove my office products. Called the company for support and they said that this was all beyond their scope. WHAT! Stop selling it then!

Not Mac Compatible

There was nothing in the the specifications or description that I saw, that suggested this was a Windows only product.

Worth the trouble of installation

My optical drive won't read disks so I went directly to the manufacturer's website to get the newest software. I experienced a little frustration trying to use the video editing software that was included but overall it does what I want it to and you can't beat the price.

A Gamer's Perspective

I bought this product so I could do screen captures of some retro video games. I managed to install the device on my laptop that has Vista (yes, Vista). I ended having to go to the support section of their website to download the correct drivers (labeled Win 7 though it works with both Vista and Win 7) and after a while got it working, mostly. The video output is not great, there is an obvious dip in quality coming from the console to the laptop. This doesn't matter to me because like said I'm just using it for retro games so the quality probably isn't apparent and thus it's almost money well spent. Oh, also when I tried video recording all I got was a black screen with sound...I guess I have to come around to that one day.
