Works as a router

So far I'm pretty happy with this router. I only bought this as a quality replacement, one I hoped would function without micromanaging. This one does just that. I've played with the other features. They all seem to work except printers. Rarely works. If you do some digging, you'll find an extremely small list of only a handful of printers that Asus says are known to work. I got my cp1215 to work on one computer, but another machine wouldn't print, no matter what. USB storage and linking to the Asus app and their cloud works, although don't bet on their cloud being reliable, as it wipes data at random.

Works as Expected

Very happy with this router. I notice a great improvement in speed with all my Apple devices as well as my Win8 Laptop using a 802.11ac adapter. It was easy to setup. So far I don't any real cons. It is a bit warm to the touch compared to my other routers. Hopefull the higher then expected heat from the unit won't effect its life. Only time will tell on that one.

AWESOME

From a setup point of view, i give it a 3 out of 5. if you have some technical knowledge, then your fine. The biggest thing I have to give it credit for is managing all my wireless devices and wired devices. I use a lot of bandwidth up and this sucker can handle it.

I'm just glad it works somewhat

I could not set this router up using my Windows 8 machine. The WIN 8 firmware would neither open or install and seemed to be still under development Finally, I was able to set up at least the internet connection using a Win 7 laptop wirelessly. I have an internet connection now on my Win8 wired, WIN XP wired, and WIN 7 wireless, and Sony Home Theater wired. They all seem somewhat faster. As for doing anything else like changing any of the settings or connecting my printers, I am leavbing well enough alone and using it as a very expensive internet router. This is the 5th wireless router I have owned and installed. Setting this up is very complicated and the instructions are lacking. I'm not an amatuer as I have a BS in Electronics and 2 years of Tech Writing training. Some day I will get brave and try to use the other features this thing is supposed to have.

Works Great

This was bought for a 2 story 4-tenement building. All units (900 sq ft per) in the building are getting at least 3-bars of signal at the farthest point from the router. Cable Ultra speed tests 50Mbs download on while connected thru LAN. Streaming TV device experience no lag and the picture quality has noticeably improved from the older NG N300 router, speeds of course improved dramatically vs the older router. Just hooked up a 3-TB external hard drive to 1 of the 2 USB ports and now have a personal cloud setup using the routers cloud software. Very happy with the router just wish they were a little lower in price. This was bought because the NG router was $10.00 more for basically the same features and speeds. Pleasantly surprised with this router as it has exceeded all expectations. If this gets priced to 179.99 it would be a fantastic buy, still nothing to complain about at its current price.

Better than the one I had

I am not an advanced tech person, but I have run Mac computers since OSX came out. Bought this router to replace Cisco because kept dropping connection with latest OS upgrade. The 5 gig signal of ASUS does not travel as far as I hoped and drops. stay on 2.4 and all is well. A person who knows what they are doing might be able to fix this as this router seems maybe more capable than I am. Not the best value for me - I paid the higher dollars hoping to have no probs at all.

Was a upgrade

I upgrade to this Router from a linksys WRT54GS that was running DTR WRT Firmware. Went from wifi speeds of 15mbps if that to about 45-50mbps. Range is same and quality about same. 5ghz wifi does run faster then the then 2.4ghz. Wireded speeds went from 39mbps to 59mbps which now mirror the speed I get with direct connect of the cable to my pc's. Was the new AC tech worth the money not really, but it sorta future proof not that there is such a thing with tech. Useing asusDRT-Merlin build, Runs kind hot compared to my old netgear i used for dsl and the old linksys 53c for 2.4ghz and 63c for 5ghz UI is nice and for most part easy to understand.
