Great Lens
I came from the 55-200 VR which I really didn't care for too much. This lens is significantly heavier but gets much better photos and of course gets the extra 100 at the long end. VR on this just plain works great. If you want a lens for travel, then I can't recommend it though. Stick with a lighter lens-- an 18-200 or 18-250 would be a much better choice. Otherwise, I heartily recommend.

A rugged lens with a nice wide sweet spot. My quivering hands were able to take some real nice photos all the way down to 1/4 second (hand held). I'm not some pro who has lots of dough to spend so this was a big deal to me. It's large and heavy as compared to today's modern day lenses but worth the weight in oil. Rubber gasket is a nice idea on the metal mounting plate. My only problem was suddenly a camera bag that had been plenty big was no longer large enough to carry this lens and other lenses. One evening the weight of the lens tipped my camera bag and it fell from about 5' onto a paved parking lot. It worked normally but had a strange rattling noise inside. A small part had broken loose and required repair. Overall I would reccomend this lens to a friend with a reccomendation they buy a bigger bag and keep it zipped at all times.
