i first thought about buying a new system but the budget wouldnt allow it. and my wife and i needed a second computer. i took a chance and i'm glad i did. it showed up a day sooner than was shown on the shipping date. wow ok great, now lets open the box, brand new or it looks brand new. wow ok lets hook it up and fire it up, wow runs fantastic. this could have been sitting on the shelf as new at bestbuy. the only thing that i see so far is it needs another gig of ram, and i had to find a driver that would work in vista for my printer. oh and i bought it one week before it went on sale for 50$ cheaper......dang it. otherwise you will not be sorry with this computer at all. |

Computer is a good buy but you need to check the Ram when you get it. Mine was suppose to have 1 GB Ram but it was so slow I couldn't figure out why so when I checked it was only reading 512 MB so I opened it up and found it that was all that was in there. |

Computer worked fine from the moment I started it up! However, I would inform anybody who buys this to buy AT LEAST an extra GB of RAM. With the original 1GB it was running at 89% of the RAM when the computer was just ''idling''. After adding another 1GB of RAM, however, the machine performed amazingly! I would suggest this to anybody on a budget... and perhaps even if you're not on a budget as this computer is also a good ''base'' for those who want to upgrade and play around a bit. |

This is the second Gateway refurbished computer I have purchased from TigerDirect.com. Hey, they both have been great. The first was a laptop. This Gateway GT5453E was delivered and wouldn't even start up. I mean NOTHING. I got on the phone with Gateway and we went through a trouble-shooting procedure. Nothing! They sent me a box via DHL and I shipped it back. It came back about 10 days later and has worked fine. They paid shipping. This was all under the 90-Day Warranty. I also purchased a one-year warranty that goes into effect after the 90 days. Good computer. I recommend it. |

Exceptional machine for the price. I was a bit IFFY about ''referb'' , but tower looked , smelled and performed like Brand New.My only disappointment came in form of preloaded VISTA..1Gig of RAM Great for any Windows - not sufficient enough to run VISTA (to slow/frustrating)so I boosted RAM with an addtional Gig , and yet VISTA managed to ''eat it Up'' , so after a bit mind buggling home ingenuity Vista was replaced with XP Pro.After that this PC is pure joy & boosted Ram made it even faster . |

Refurbished? This is a brand new item if the ''Refurbished'' tag wasn't displayed. First off, the price is unbeatable. You also have available slots of any kind in case you may want to upgrade it or add specific expansion cards. It comes with a 450W PSU (Power Supply)which is more than enough to provide power to your system and your neighbor's next door. *I don't know why Tiger Direct never includes the PSU information*
Great performance even running Windows Vista. It can't perform any better with an operating system like Vista and the onboard video. Also comes with 2 FireWire ports for my wireless and multimedia allowing me to have enough USB ports for all other peripherals. This is a real budget Computer and I highly recommended it. I guess I'll be writing another review very soon as I'm buying another one. You guys provide an exceptional service!

Very Happy!
Computer was brand new out of box. Booted first time, slow but flawless. Comes with Win OS installation disk. Purchased additional RAM for 2 GB total.
Then I installed the 128 MB Nvidia Geforce 7300LE I had purchased - big mistake on my part. It actually slowed down the machine. ''Windows Experience Index'' went from 3 for 3D video to a 2.5. Lesson learned - if you want to get a WEI of 4 or better (so you can experience Aero (new Vista stuff) you need a video card with 512 MB RAM. Watch for power supply requirements.
Problem logging onto Gateway support, however. The machine gets a new serial number when refurbished. This number is on the back of the machine and begins with ''RCI...'' Do NOT type in the dash if you goto Gateway - you ALWAYS have to enter the serial number. If this doesn't work, call Gateway 1 (408)273-0808, answer the voice prompts with ''None of these'' to talk to a real person. Tech registered machine for me.

Very pleased with the computer, no problems so far (1 week). Picked it up from the store and it was working in 10 mins. Connected easily to my XP PC after installing the correct driver on the XP machine! You must buy an extra 1GB, the default 1GB is not enough, lots of disk activity!
Overall a great buy, i'm buying another this weekend. |

Very disappointed with this computer. Had to plug and unplug power several times to make it go, no reset button. Can not transfer files from old computer without additional hardware/software, no help from Gateway. No documentation of any kind, not even a decent packing slip. Windows Vista really sucks, will not run older Windows software. Pushes unwanted products such as Macafee and others as trial software, hard to get rid of these annoying things. Not returnable, stuck with it. |

This was the best buy I have made in along time. It came within 6 days, and looks new. Can't even hear it at times, she also runs rather fast but I am planning to put 4gigs in her sometime.
Just do the vista updates and you may want to remove some of the Gateway freebies, I know I did.
Only thing I'd say negative about this whole thing would be the customer service from Tiger Direct. They act like they are doing you the favor. They really don't know much about what they are selling from the sound of things when you talk to them on the phone.
So when you get the computer and have questions, give Gateway a call. They are professional people with excellent pr skills. |
