How can you go wrong for one hundred bucks with shipping.Mine came with the first 2 Bourne movies instead of 300 but whatever. For the money it is a great deal and the upconvert on regular dvd's is great as well.

Works right out of the box. I saw no need to download any firmware as of yet. Great quality DVD player and thanks for the two free movies. My only gripe is the time it takes to ''boot up'', but other than that, I am truly please and recommend this player to anyone.

When I got my player last night, I set it up and tried to play one of the included HD-DVDs that were in the box. It gave me an error that it was not a valid DVD. I instead tried running A Pixar DVD and it was stunning! The upconversion was fantastic. The HD-DVD had a note that some of the features might not work unless the player was upgraded to the latest flash software. I downloaded the .ISO file from the Toshiba website and burned a CD. After inserting the CD the machine immediately started the update. My HD-DVD played fine after that. Updating the machine is REAL important. In addition, the movies in the box were not the same as the ones in the Tiger Direct ad. I'm not complaining, I think the ones I got are better.

I just bought one, I know Blue-Ray has won the format war, but a DVD/HD DVD player for $90, thats cheaper than any of the other store. I expect the price of these to drop really low in the next few weeks, but I'm looking forward to getting my 5 free HD DVDs in the mail. Luckily most of my HD DVDs are in the DVD combo format. I guess I need to buy a Blue-Ray player or PS3 now.

The HD-DVD picture is great. But I can't recommend it for the upconverting task alone. It takes FOREVER to boot up and regularly locks up requiring a power disconnect to recover. There are other sub-$100 upconverting DVD players out there. I have a Sony that upconverts that I bought two years ago for under $100. And the Sony is ready to play just 4 seconds after pushing the power button.

Just a correction of the review by HDDVD: Blu-Ray players absolutely DO upconvert regular DVD's. I don't know why he would say they don't.

This player is awesome! Price is awesome! There is no better up converting player made than Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD Player. You will use this player for many years to come. Some people have trouble because they do not update the firm ware. I bought it just to up convert. The HD-DVD is a bonus. HD-DVD ROCKS

Have it. Love it. I have both formats, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Both Formats are amazing quality. Both will up convert your regular DVD's. However, the price of this HD-DVD player is worth every penny. BUY IT!

I bought this HD-DVD player (A3) last week. I am using a TEK HDMI switcher with three inputs with it. Great performance, superb audio, brilliant color, have had no problems, or issues. I am throughly enjoying my regular DVD's with it. I does a great job. The remote works great, love the slow feature, frame by frame. Setup was easy, connection to the Ethernet lan was accomplished without incident, it found the servers and the network fine.
Only Con: I cannot change the Picture Frame to fill the TV screen with a 4:3 DVD. On other DVD upconverting players, you can fill the screen with the picture, even though it is not widescreen formatted. On this item, whatever the picture frame is, ie, widescreen, fullscreen, that is what comes out on the TV. Two aspect ratios are available. 16:9, 4:3, and nothing in between. I guess I got spoiled in not having to buy widescreen, if it was available in widescreen, and yet could view it with a filled screen even though there was a little distortion.

Hangs up on regular DVDs and has numerous audio problems. Also, don't hold your breath waiting for the free HD DVDs. They over-extended themselves with this offer, and you will be waiting a LONGGGGGGGG time to get them.
