Manufacturers sometimes offer discounts when large quantities of products are purchased without fancy, colorful, retail packaging. We take advantage of these opportunities to bring you the same quality, retail product at a lower price. Retail packaging is designed to look good on a store shelf and attract your attention. It frequently includes more paper, plastic and cardboard than needed. OEM packaging is not as visually attractive but is far more economical and because OEM packaging uses less paper, plastic, ink and cardboard it creates less waste and is better for the environment. Although OEM packaged product ships in a plain white or brown box you can be assured it is the same quality product as the retail packaged version. Buying OEM packaged products saves you money and helps save the planet…GO GREEN AND SAVE GREEN. Included accessories, software, documentation, and manufacturer warranties on OEM products may vary from retail versions. Good value for money as a starter unit. Works well when you learn to use the menu. Volume level could be louder. Canadian model only has major US routes, and maps are somewhat outdated. MIO appears to be unable or unwilling to provide map support via SD card. Except for lack of detailed US maps, this unit is worth having.

I bouth this one because my old car doesnt have build in GPS System. This one is really cool looking, very compat yet very easy to use once you get hang of it. The accuricy is very good and the re-rout calculation is faster then most GPS. The voice feature makes the turn by turn very easy and keeps you focus on driving. The picture is very clear and the maps are mostly updated. Its really good for starters to have this then jump into more advanced and more complex GPS. But for the price and size it does the job well done.

Very nice unit for the price (and very hackable! you can add video, pics, music, games, paint, etc...). Battery life is very poor, but your gonna lose something when it's this small (which i wanted to be able to take it out of the care with me along with my stereo faceplate). Roads are a little out of date but I guess a lot of units suffer from this (at least you can update this one). No headphone jack is kinda odd (again you can hack one, but why not have it onboard?) bluetooth would be nice I guess, but at this price can't say I don't love it! Good window mount, quick satelite lock, you might want to make sure you got a USB A to Mini B (5pin) cable so you can link to your PC and charge in home. Also play with the route setup, I found ''Economy'' works best for me as ''Fastest'' favored interstates way too much and ''Short'' had me cutting through housing complexes just to save a few hundred feet...

I bought both this unit and a low-end Garmin Street Pilot. I've never had a GPS before, so I tested them together. The Mio has a much larger screen, is more compact and the touch screen makes it very easy to use. It has great accuracy and quick route recalculations. I'm really impressed with its performance and features with such a low price tag. I even lent it to our new pastor who just moved to Louisville from South Carolina (he needs it more than I do).

GPS Terms You Should
Know!
GPS - Global Positioning System (Device) - Is a device that works
with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) developed by the US
Dept. of Defense. It is the only fully functional GNSS in the world,
and uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit
satellites that transmit precise signals allowing GPS receivers to
determine their current location, the exact time, and their velocity.
Also known as a Personal Navigation Device, Navigational System, GPS Receiver,
or GPS Navigator.
System - The GPS Device itself.
Navigation - Is the process of
locating your current position, establishing your destination, and
controlling the direction and movement of a vehicle from one place to
another.
Compass - A device or feature of a GPS receiver
that shows your current direction.
Map - A map (or chart)
is a visual representation of an area, showing different objects or
landmarks; such as: streets, buildings, locations, and points of
interest.
Trip - A trip is the travel from point A to
point B.
Point of Interest - A POI is a recorded
location within the GPS Device, either pre-defined, or that can be
end-user entered. Usually these are accessed to speed setting a
destination, or a detour.
Trilateration - This is how a GPS device knows its
location. It uses three GPS satellites to trilaterate its
position. GPS units operate on a common clocking system to use
the variation in radio-frequency signal arrival time to calculate
their position.
Automotive GPS - A GPS Receiver typically
used in a car or truck. Depending on the design, can also be
used on motorcycles, boats, or as a hand-held GPS, but is not designed
specifically for these uses.
Mounting - Dash or dashboard mounting usually involves a suction mount holder,
that can easily be removed for storage when not needed.
Traffic - Traffic can be: the

ability to route around typical congestion points on your Trip or

names, or alerts; or can be voice commands that the GPS owner gives to
the GPS device.
Touch Screen - A covering over the GPS
display allowing control of the features or map of the GPS Device.
Bluetooth - This is a wireless technology allowing
different devices to communicate. In GPS systems, Bluetooth
usually allows the GPS device to act as a hands-free speaker phone.
Geotagging - This is the saving of a
GPS coordinate to other information, such as a photo, point of
interest or other location. Using a GPS you can usually obtain
exact coordinates that may be used with other devices, or other
devices, such as a Digital Camera may have GOS built in for that
purpose.
GPS Vehicle Placement! NOTICE TO DRIVERS IN CALIFORNIA AND MINNESOTA:
State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using
suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. But you can
easily use other GPS dashboard or friction mounting options. Consult your
GPS manual for more information.
