Wow, I just got my scanner yesterday. It was easy to setup and a dream to run. I never send in feedback but I had to on this. I have bought several other scanners in the past and have never been happy. This one is so easy and does an excellent job of creating PDF files for archiving. The OCR does't work any better then the other scanner software out there but have yet to find one that does. I tried running everything I could find through it from newspaper clippings to several odd sized sheets at one time without a glitch. I scanned more documents yesterday in about 2 hours then I have scanned in the last ten years put together. Seems like a great product!
As far as the last post goes the only software that I needed a serial number for was Adobe which was on the Cd sleeve.

I got my S510M ScanSnap last week. The Card reader works fine, however the actual document software can't be used! There's no software serial number! I've spent over eight hours on the phone with MacMall, Fujitsu and Read Iris to get the serial number and it's become an exercise in finger pointing. So far the Scan Snap is a five hundred dollar paper weight. I cannot and will not recommend this situation even to my enemies.

This is a great scanner that comes with Adobe software. I have installed several of these in places that have very non-technical people using them and it is so simpile I have not had one complaint. The price may seem a little high but consider the software you get with it and it is a very good deal. I will continue to buy and install these scanners!

A friend recommended for my business. I waited several months until I had extra funds to purchase (purchased in Spring 2006). I can't believe I ever operated an office without one. The only bad feature I have found is that sometimes if I put too many pages on at one time it will jam. When I have a large document (over 20 pages) I start by feeding about 4-5 sheets until it is going and then add them 5-10 at a time until the document is complete. With 18PPM scanning speed this little task only takes a few extra seconds. When I hired an assistant I put the ScanSnap on her desk. Only 2 weeks later I am purchasing another model for my desk, I miss it too much. Every team member in a small or busy office should have one!

I bought the ScanSnap in early 2007 to convert to a paperless home office. It was quite a time consuming project digitizing 10+ years of paper files. But boy was it worth it in the end. I could not have done the project without the ScanSnap. First off, it is super fast. I got so aggressive with it that sometimes I loaded too many papers and it would suck in 2pages at a time. But as long as you treat it well it will perform like a charm. Also, it does have a limitation on the length of paper- if you have some unusual paper longer than 24'' it will not take it - legal size is about the limit. But very seldom do I have long papers to scan. Now I use it on an ongoing basis, scanning and shredding all my bills and correspondence. I also like it because it is so small. If it every breaks, I'll buy another one. It is fantastic. A great little workhorse.

If the state of Michigan would allow it, I would marry this scanner - I love it that much.
It has saved me over and over again at work - it scans quickly, in duplex, and almost never jams. Not only that, but it is very good about only pulling through one piece of paper at a time. I didn't realize how good this one was until I started a new job that has different, hugely inferior scanners. I miss you ScanSnap.....

I never write reviews, but this machine has been very impressive (even photo scans). I scanned all of my notes from grad school and tossed the paper copies. The OCR works well, even converting fairly poor text copies (which google desktop can now search with no problems). Also, some have complained about scanning photos, but I've found much success scanning them. I'm an amateur photographer and, granted, I still have my flatbed, but I used this for digitizing hundreds of old family photos quickly and they all came out looking great. Unless you're looking for truly professional quality photo scans, you'll be more than satisfied with this. Overall, this is a great scanner!

We've has S510 for about a week. It's been performing great. Using the Rack2-Filer software we've scanned in over 2,577 documents (5,000+ sides). We figure we've already hit our ROI on the package...our cost $787 for scanner, software, external hard drive and mozy backup service; to file the same paper usually costs us $3,216 dollars for 1'' binders, dividers, and shelves. The equipment and the software is exceptionally easy to use. It'd be great if TigerDirect also sold the full version of the Rack2-Filer software which you can buy at Fujitsu PA43403-B82901 for $249.

It needs to be very clear that this product CANNOT be used outside of the software it comes with. There are no TWAIN or WIA drivers available for this unit. Outside of this crippled functionality the hardware performs well.

We have three of these at our office. They work GREAT! I love that Adobe Acrobat Standard comes with the scanner.
Biggest downfall is no drivers for other applications to talk to it.
